Job SummaryProvides leadership for the Student Accessibility Services department, manage the departmental budget, assure compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and serve as a consultant to the faculty, staff, and administration on disability-related issues. This position reports to the Vice President of Culture and Engagement.
Job Duties
  • Ensure compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act in providing student access and services.
  • Provide guidance on academic and personal issues for students with disabilities involving faculty, staff, administration, legal counsel, and Title IX.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for disability resource managers, staff, student workers, and practicum students conducting performance planning, feedback, and evaluations as required.
  • Serve as disability support services director for all seven BCTC campuses.
  • Meet with students regarding reasonable accommodations and service delivery.
  • Review disability documentation of students and determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Refer students to campus resources and outside agencies for assistance as needed.
  • Provide consultation and educational training to faculty, staff, and administration on disability issues.
  • Participate in local and regional high school special education transition conferences and fairs to increase student access to postsecondary education and contribute to a diverse student body.
  • Prepare and manage budget for disability services, including funds from various resources; secure funding for needed programs and services.
  • Serve on local boards and remain active in professional organizations.
  • Attend and participate in all departmental, division, and college staff meetings.
  • Stay current on trends and issues in the field of postsecondary education and disability.
  • Maintain confidential student records.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Provide effective communication and leadership consistent with the mission of the college and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and in cooperation with other college administrators to the disability support services department.
  • Participate with the president and other college leadership in planning and assessing overall college operations and initiatives.
  • Support accountability and institutional effectiveness by developing, implementing, and assessing effective procedures that support college operations and foster student success.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (in Counseling, Psychology, Rehabilitation, or related field) and three years of related work experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five to seven years of related work experience or equivalent.
  • Managerial, budgeting, supervisory, decision-making, counseling, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Section 504 and ADA.
  • A comprehensive understanding of disabilities.
  • Experience interpreting psychological and medical evaluations.
