Research & Patron Services

• Provide in-depth in-person and remote research services for global patrons in a high service volume special collections library.
• Provide still image services for in-person and remote patrons, mediating digitization and license agreements.
• Conduct reference interviews and research consultations.
• Provide Library tours.
• Coordinate with Library staff to triage research and patron services workflows and deliverables.

Collections Management

• Index serials.
• Build and manage the library’s industry research files.
• Accession, catalog, and ingest monographs and serials.
• Process archival collections.
• Index still image collections across formats employing metadata schemas for long-term access.
• Employ preservation best practices across in-print and digital collections, coordinating re-housing, mitigation, space utilization, and digital long-term storage projects.
• Conduct gap analyses to build collections in alignment with the Library’s collection development policy.
• Use Dublin Core metadata standards for item ingest to Library’s digital asset management system.
• Coordinate with Library staff to triage, implement, and oversee collections management projects.

Education & Outreach

• Represent Keeneland and the Library in professional organizations and industry and community service groups.
• Support Library department with: 
  • Community and industry educational programs for patrons of all ages
  • Physical and virtual exhibit development

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High proficiency connecting in-person and remote patrons to special collections information and image resources.
• Knowledge of the following:
  • Emerging trends and technology in research and special library services
  • Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry
  • Information and image resource intellectual property compliance standards
  • Information and image resource preservation and conservation best practice standards
• Ability to enhance patron experience through exceptional customer service.
• High proficiency conducting research consultations.
• Proficient in a wide range of library applications and technology peripherals.
• Vetted, progressive experience with online library catalogs and digital asset management systems, including Library World, OCLC Record Manager, Omeka, and Islandora.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to exercise independent judgement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, people, research, and critical thinking skills required.

Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited program 
• 3 to 5 years of progressive employment in a high service volume research or special collections library
