Job Scope: As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Finance reports to the CFO and is responsible for directing and controlling all financial-related areas of the company. This includes providing leadership and coordination in accounting, finance, budgeting, and costing efforts of the agency.
Responsibilities
  • Accounting and Finance Leadership. In tandem with the agency’s CFO.
    • Oversee and coordinate agency’s annual budgeting and planning process, work with the Leadership Team on their individual cost center budgets for the submission to the CFO for final approval; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
    • Maintain a system of effective internal controls and safeguards throughout the organization for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets, actual expenditures and cash disbursements
    • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; oversee preparation of all required account reconciliations and account analyses
    • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; distribute and communicate quarterly and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep the Leadership Team abreast of KYC financial status
    • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting & reporting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for agency funders based on their requirements
    • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of contractual/grant budgets and related monthly, quarterly and annual reporting materials for funding organizations
    • Monitor receipt of state and federal funding; follow-up as needed
    • Manage cash flow and forecasting
    • Coordinate all audit activities including oversight for preparation of all required audit schedules
    • Review all formal finance procedures, processes and administration, recommending improvements to systems in place and manage the systems going forward
    • Coordinate banking activities for the agency, including bank accounts, mortgage, line of credit, and credit cards
    • Monitor and coordinate accounting and reporting for investment portfolio activities; present findings to Investments Committee
    • Assist in management of payroll database and oversee recording of semi-monthly payroll entries in GL
    • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the CIS Program, including GL accounting & reporting, monthly maintenance billings, accounts receivable and collections
  • Administration
    • Member of Leadership Team
    • Prepare quarterly financial statements for the Operations/Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Attend quarterly Operations/Executive Committee meetings to present financial statements and annual budget
    • Supervise finance staff
    • Other duties as necessary
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Master degree and/or CPA certification preferred
  • Seven to ten years of experience in non-profit accounting with three to five years in a leadership role
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
