Kent Conservation District is Hiring a CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN IV Near Lewes, DE

This is not a merit position. This is a contractual position with the opportunity to work long term.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary duties of the selected candidate will be to support beach operations by operating a quad track dozer, D5 dozer, front-end loader, skid loader and similar equipment to haul, push and grade beach sand in vehicle and pedestrian crossings and to reinforce the beach berm and dune toe. Remove damaged beach fence and poles and install new fence and poles with equipment and by hand. Support waterway operations by operating an excavator on a sectional barge on the water during channel marking activities, installing, and removing dredge pipe, and removal of hazards to navigation.

JOB DUTIES:

· Crew/project leaders are accountable for work production, monitoring progress
and workflow, ensuring work is completed.

· Scheduling work, establishing work standards, evaluating
equipment/maintenance needs and ensuring that projects comply with applicable
permits, laws, rules and regulations.

· First line supervision is exercised over at least two or more full time positions that
includes positions up to Level III. The elements of supervision include planning,
assigning, reviewing, evaluating, coaching, training, and recommending hire/fire,
discipline.

· Supervision must include responsibility as needed, for providing documentation to
support recommended corrective and disciplinary actions, signing performance
plans and appraisals and resolving informal grievances.

· Project team leaders operate the most complex equipment such as hydraulic
dredges, cranes, macroalgae harvesters and amphibious excavators and oversees
and understands complex repair methods/techniques and may review and
recommend the appropriateness of cost estimates and work schedules.

· Provides input to management on project planning and implements management
plans/projects based on application of the principles/practices and
methods/techniques of natural resources conservation/preservation; recommends
modifications to plans/projects based on field/environmental conditions.

· Contacts are typically to answer questions/inquires and explain applicable laws,
rules, regulations, and policies to the public regarding on-going projects/activities
and with other agency staff to resolve compliance problems/issues and to explain
needed modifications to plans/projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Three years’ experience in operating hand power tools and land-based and/or
marine-based construction equipment used for grading, excavating, pumping, or
dredging.

2. Three years’ experience in routine maintenance of land and marine construction
equipment, light trucks, and vessels.

3. Six months experience in site construction standards and methods to support
land and marine activities.

4. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training,
training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker
overseeing the work of others; or supervising Conservation District staff which
may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR
supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical,
and clerical employees.

5. Possession of a valid CDL Class A OR B Driver's License (not suspended, revoked,
or canceled, or disqualified from driving).

6. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Kent
Conservation District does not provide sponsorship for holders of H1B Visas.

BENEFITS:

This position offers a comprehensive benefit package including: 37.5-hour work week with flexible scheduling options, 15 paid vacation days the first year, 9 paid holidays a year and 15 paid sick leave days per year. Pension and health insurance are also included in the benefits package. Direct Deposit of paychecks will be required as a condition of employment for new employees.
