About the job:
Kent is looking for a Supervisor – Civil/ Structural Design to be based in Corpus Christi, TX
This position covers the responsibilities at the senior specialist or senior supervisory level of the designers function. Incumbents are generally assigned to a major project with design supervisor assistance, or an entire medium sized project with complex responsibilities.
On major projects, the responsibilities include workshare management between multiple offices globally. This person must be able to exercise independent judgment in planning, scheduling, organizing, controlling scope and budget, and resolve design solutions between all project disciplines including PM or PE. The responsibilities also include monitoring the work team as well as exercising initiative in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual problem situations and resolving most conflicts.
Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Estimating workload and determining staff requirements.
  • Developing, approving, and coordinating work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality and deadlines are met.
  • Keeping up to date on new design processes, modeling, drafting techniques / procedures, and IMS and standards.
  • Developing and recommending improvements in design standards to lower cost improve work quality and facilitate maintenance.
  • Investigating, advising, and resolving unusual design and field engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in novel ways.
  • Developing project specific guidelines and design highlights.
  • Making recommendations to improve unit efficiency in construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Incorporating safety in design considering construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Ensuring that effective methods and design techniques are used.
  • Analyzing problems and conducting investigations and research.
  • Resolving project issues and problems while considering all disciplines.
  • Host a 3D model review for all disciplines while keeping the review on schedule. Ability to drive the review model, sell the layout and design, scribe the model review comments, and make model shots of comments.
  • Provide technical guidance to co-workers.
  • Supervising work of subordinates within a large work unit.
  • Support employees with training and development opportunities.
  • Contributing to a team environment by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
  • Ensuring alignment between all disciplines that are involved with 3D CAD to prepare for model reviews and issue of project deliverables.
  • Works autonomously without direct supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • Technical college graduation with 10 years plus of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Solid understanding of 2D and 3D computer applications for engineering design.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in technology.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into daily work processes.
  • In depth knowledge of piping design standards, methods and practices.
  • Significant knowledge of manufacturing, process, maintenance and construction methods.
  • Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
  • Ability to manage a design team to maximize their productivity while fostering individuals career development objectives.
Communication:
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills required.
Behavior/Core Competencies:
  • Organizational skills required.
  • Experienced in developing logical sequencing of work.
  • Problem solving skills including the ability to redirect team’s activities to maintain productivity if required.
  • MS Office (Excel and Word) proficiency required.
  • Strong knowledge of the following software: AutoCAD, Microstation, Advance Steel, Civil 3D, and 3D modeling methodologies.
