What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervising Sanitarian position at Kent County?
The KCHD Environmental Health Division is in search of an additional Supervising Sanitarian to share the responsibilities of overseeing the Food Safety program. The position will evaluate programming, provide technical support, mentor staff, and support in the enforcement of regulations and applicable state laws.
Will train, supervise, and instruct staff in their technical and administrative duties including food safety and foodborne illness investigations and response.
Will review, make recommended changes, and develop programs, procedures and materials based on changes in technology to ensure consistent enforcement. Will work in partnership with community, industry, and state partners to advance a culture of food safety in Kent County. In addition to certification as a Registered Sanitarian or equivalent, the qualified candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or a related field and must demonstrate a minimum of three years of progressively responsible related experience.
Must have thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of food safety, County and Michigan public health laws, rules, and regulations. Must possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and have access to transportation in the performance of job duties. Must provide and ensure exceptional customer service. Computer literacy, including knowledge of word processing software, required. Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
