Kentucky College of Art Design Job Description

Job Title: Academic Support Coordinator

Job Location: KyCAD Mansion HQ - 505 W. Ormsby Ave, Louisville, Ky 40203

Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs/Rounsavall Dean of Studio Art

Classification: Non-Exempt

Part I - Position Description

Directly reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Academic Support Coordinator collaborates with Dean of Faculty, Director of Library Services, faculty and staff to assist students' academic coursework, connect them to appropriate resources, and provide ongoing support as needed. By developing, promoting and administering support for the whole student, including academic skills, wellness, inclusion, and belonging, the Academic Support Coordinator contributes to building an innovative learning culture of creativity and rigor.

Part II - Responsibilities

35% One-on-One/small group Tutoring, Academic Coaching, Foundational academic skill development, Whole-student support

  • Maintain both on-campus and online office hours up to ten hours per week for appointments and walk-in. Assess student academic needs and provide individualized assistance. Support students under Conditional Admission, in response to academic alerts, and build core competencies.
  • Provide assistance to students and faculty to address learning accommodations.
  • Be the students' point of contact as needs arise and assist them from a consulting point of view by connecting them with appropriate internal or external resources for their situation.

25% Student programming and communications

  • Maintain the Student Portal, including updating events, revisions, professional opportunities board, and external resources. Keep students informed of developments, announcements, etc by email.
  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly lunchtime programming for students (S.T.E.W.), including arranging for internal and external presenters, refreshments, if appropriate, outreach and advertising. Track attendance and participation results.

10% Learning Technology Support

  • Support students and faculty with navigating the College's Learning Management System (Populi).
  • Assist Dean of Faculty with on-boarding new faculty in use of LMS (LMS). Update, if needed, materials about LMS distributed during on-boarding.
  • Support students in their use of supportive learning technologies.

25% Administration

  • Collect and synthesize information and data on students' academic challenges and needs to assist the VPAA in resource allocation and decision-making in the area of student support.
    • Participate in strategizing with the VPAA and Student Affairs staff to support holistic student success at KyCAD.
  • Design and implement evaluation tools to assess Academic Support usage; prepare reports and statistics documenting program participation.
  • Contribute to development of student support policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to crafting language to describe Academic Support resources in Admissions materials, marketing materials, website.

5% Professional Development and Networking

  • Stay current on trends, developments, innovations in student success.
  • Present trends, developments and research on student success to KyCAD community.

Part III - Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, communication, psychology, or a related field; education in special education preferred.
  • Experience in providing services to students in an education setting and/or within university learning centers or academic support (tutoring, Supplemental Instruction).
  • Knowledge and understanding of collegiate learning strategies.
  • Ability to assess and interpret individual student needs and to make appropriate referrals.
  • Experience in providing support for students with learning differences, preferred
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to large and small audiences.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations and school policies, and other State and Federal laws.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 apps (SharePoint sites, OneDrive, calendar/mail, Lists)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience or interest in the visual arts, preferred.
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Training, education, experience, and other credentials may vary by position to identify one or more appropriate candidates to perform the tasks and activities relating to a role; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform the work as outlined in the position description and responsibilities sections above.

This position requires the ability to lift 30lbs (approx.) and must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
