The Senior Accountant oversees general accounting operations for the College by controlling and verifying our financial transactions.

This position is responsible for reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing month-end close procedures. The person in this role combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of all Accounting tasks in collaboration with the CFO.

Part II - Responsibilities

• Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
• Complete payroll journal and general journal entries
• Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
• Analyze financial information and summarize financial status for internal and external reporting, including in preparation for communication with the Leadership team.
• Troubleshoot errors in Accounting procedures and work the with CFO and other team members to improve efficiency and spending
• Manage general bookkeeping tasks in the day-to-day operations of the College
• Review and confirm purchase and procurement requests in alignment with departmental budgets
• Manage vendor list in QuickBooks Online
• Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
• Provide input into Finance department's annual objective setting and review process
• Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
• Assist with tax audits and tax returns
• Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance in collaboration with the CFO
• Support month-end and year-end close process
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
• Liaise with the Chief Financial Officer and other departments and team members to establish and improve financial procedures.

Part III - Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Financial Controller, Accountant, or Senior Accountant
• CPA or CMA
• Proficiency and experience using Microsoft products
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills, as well as fine-tuned orientation to detail
• Solid understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations

This position requires the ability to lift 30lbs (approx.) and must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
