Dean of Students

Kentucky Wesleyan College, a private, liberal arts college with a long-standing reputation for

quality and academic excellence, seeks applications for a full-time Dean of Students to join our

community and to lead student life, retention, and co-curricular learning. Reporting directly to

President Dr. James Cousins, the Dean is a member of the college’s leadership team and

collaborates with the other members of the Cabinet, the faculty, and the staff throughout the

college to enhance recruitment, retention, and overall student success.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and attend a variety of student services and programs that
positively impact the quality of student life on campus and promote student engagement,

success, learning, and development.

  • In conjunction with others, lead student orientation programs.
  • Establish and articulate the College’s standards of conduct for students and serve as the

primary officer responsible for the adjudication of non-academic misconduct.

  • Act as a communications liaison between students and the administration.
  • Serve as a member of the senior management team to discuss and decide issues related to

the overall management of the College.

  • Staff and support to the Board of Trustees and the Student Life Enrichment Committee.
  • Advise the Student Government Association (SGA) and act as ex-officio, nonvoting

member of the SGA Senate.

  • Serve as an Administrator in an on-all rotation program for student services, as needed.
  • Compile data and complete reports to comply with the Cleary Act and other reporting

requirements related to Student Life.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of successful, progressively responsible higher education
administrative experience in student services.
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs/Services, Higher Education Administration, or a
related field. An earned doctorate degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the legal implications of Student Affairs practice and student retention
issues.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to
build and maintain relationships with all segments of the campus community.
  • High level of comfort using computers and MS Office, with the ability to learn new
programs and software.
