What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Associate Co-Op, In vivo Hematopoietic Research position at Keros Therapeutics?
Keros Therapeutics is a public, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel treatments for patients suffering from hematological and musculoskeletal disorders with high unmet medical need. We are a leader in understanding the role of the transforming growth factor-beta, or TGF-ß, family of proteins, which are master regulators of red blood cell and platelet production as well as of the growth, repair and maintenance of muscle and bone. We have leveraged this understanding and developed a discovery approach to generate large and small molecules to address diseases of these tissues. Targeting TGF-ß signaling pathways has been clinically proven to elicit robust changes in blood cells, muscle, and bone, which we believe provides a precedent and strong rationale for our strategy.
Keros Therapeutics is seeking a passionate, eager individual to join our preclinical research group to contribute to increasing our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of our molecules, with a focus on hematopoiesis. You will play an important role in the development of in vivo models and cellular assays to expand our understanding of hematopoiesis and the effect of our drug candidates on this process. In doing so, you will gain valuable industry experience and receive extensive training in both in vivo and ex vivo research. A successful candidate will be an inquisitive critical thinker and problem solver and eager to learn.
Responsibilities:
- Basic handling of mice, including restraint, dosing, clinical observations, necropsy and tissue collection
- Downstream processing of mouse tissues for qPCR, ELISA and immunohistochemistry
- Collection and evaluation of hematopoietic stem cells and mesenchymal stromal cells for cell culture, colony forming assays, flow cytometric analysis and immunostaining
- Perform PubMed and literature searches to identify relevant scientific articles that can be used to fill gaps in knowledge/expertise, design experiments and develop new research models.
- Maintain clear, accurate records of lab work and summarize results as needed in study reports.
- Practice attention to detail and provide updates at team meetings.
Qualifications:
- Students majoring in animal science, biology, biochemistry, or related majors.
- Has some mouse handling and mammalian cell culture experience
- Interest in a future career in biomedical research and be open to performing in vivo experiments
- Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team as well as independently with supervision
- Strong communication and organization skills, good working knowledge of MS office, data plotting, and presentation.
- Displays a high degree of maturity, honesty, trust, and integrity. A curious individual considers a scientific problem/question as an opportunity for innovation and intellectual growth.
