SummaryThe Division of Educational Studies at Keuka College seeks an adjunct instructor to teach the Educational Psychology course in an online or hybrid format. This is a 3 credit theoretical course that focuses on the understanding and application of psychological findings and principles related to education. It examines the array of individual learning and behavioral differences found in the diverse population of today's schools. Understanding the tenets of the primary theories of learning (behavioral, cognitive processing, developmental, constructivist, and socially influenced), along with the potential influence of diversity on learning is examined. The application of these understandings to the teaching of school-aged children is then explored, along with an understanding of the psychological aspects of learning environments and instructional organization approaches. The instructor will be responsible for teaching the course, as well as other duties such as office hours, course preparation, and student assessment. Experience in the US K-12 classroom, graduate-level degree in education (Masters), and experience with teaching online are required. The course is a junior/senior-level course currently offered online. This is a pool position. The Division Chair will access the applicant pool when there is a hiring need and qualified applicants for this position could be called for an interview on an as-needed basis.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Teach EDU 355 Educational Psychology, which consists of 3 credit hours of class per week per section, plus office hours, course preparation, and student assessment.
  • Work with division faculty as needed to ensure effectiveness within the position.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, and internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in a K-12 classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching college-level education courses.
  • A graduate-level degree related to education.
  • Ability to teach multiple learners.
  • Understanding of current educational theories, and familiarity with philosophies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of all constituents of the College including but not limited to students, faculty, college staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Physical Requirements
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
