DescriptionThe Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Keuka College seeks a full-time visiting faculty member in Environmental Science for the 2024 – 2025 Academic year. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Expertise in soils, land use, and/or sustainability is a plus. Teaching responsibilities will include sections of Introductory Environmental Science and the associated lab, as well as upper-level courses. The former course serves as the introductory course for environmental science majors and is also an integral part of the College’s general education program. Opportunities for research with undergraduate students will also be available and encouraged. High-quality teaching and mentoring are imperative, and we seek enthusiastic faculty who value and enjoy working closely with our student population. The department plans to conduct a full search for a tenure-track position for the 25-26 academic year. Essential Responsibilities
  • Teach ENV105 – Environmental Science lecture and lab.
  • Teach upper level environmental science courses.
  • Plan course instruction based upon existing course descriptions and/or syllabus, goals, and objectives.
  • Design, administer, and grade course assignments and exams to assess the achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus.
  • Provide clear documentation of student progress through regular feedback, academic alerts, and midterm progress reports as necessary.
  • Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is conducive to learning.
  • Plan effectively for classes and student success.
  • Maintain regular office hours to meet one-on-one with students.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related field is strongly preferred, ABD will be considered.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Physical Requirements
  • Evening and weekend hours required.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
