The Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation (KPHC) is established for the purposes of carrying out the vision and mission of the Santo Domingo Health Center (SDHC). POSITION PURPOSE:
The Pharmacy Technician purpose work is to provide technical support and assistance to the registered pharmacists in the process of providing pharmaceutical care to the clients and customers served by the pharmacy department. The Pharmacy Technician reports to the Director of Pharmacy Services.
PERFOMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of the Kewa Pueblo Health Center are expected to conform to the following:

  • Comply with all Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation and Santo Domingo Health Center policies and procedures, as well
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Check pharmacy stock to ensure that proper levels are maintained, stock is rotated, and medications are stored properly.
  • Fill medication orders processed by a pharmacist using pharmacy robotics and hand count (i.e. ScriptPro PMS and Central platform) ensuring appropriate medication is filled and labeling requirements are met.
  • Using pharmacy robotics for preparing prepackaged medication for frequently prescribed medications and quantities.
  • Fills automated dispensing cabinet medication orders after verification by pharmacist.
  • Fills and maintains pharmacy filling robotics (Pyxis and ScriptPro).
  • Checks in patients at pharmacy counter via NextGen Scheduling module and directs all problems/refill denials to appropriate personnel.
  • Takes refill requests in person at pharmacy window and off pharmacy refill line.
  • Delivers medications for home delivery to the Santo Domingo Pueblo.
  • Return medication to stock after 7 days on shelf, making notation in each patient’s chart via RPMS and EHR.
  • When requested by a pharmacist, aids in counseling by interpretation and/or independent counseling and verifies identity of patient, reviews all medications with patient (or proxy) to include proper dose, directions for use, potential adverse reactions. Side effects expected outcomes drug-drug or drug-food interactions as appropriate for that patient. Provides patient education in the private patient consultation room as appropriate and includes consultation of patient using these drugs for the first time or on a chronic basis. Patients may be from pediatric through the geriatric ages and seeks guidance on unique patient problems or questions from the pharmacist as appropriate. Refers patient to pharmacist when necessary.
  • Performs other tasks which may be varied but that the individual has achieved proficiency through repetition and requires no interpretation on the part of the aid. This may be assigned at the discretion of the director of the pharmacy services branch.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be licensed with the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy (NMBP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, and Other Qualifications:
  • Within one (1) year from being licensed with the NMBP as a Pharmacy Technician, MUST complete and achieve national certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the ExCPT Program.
  • Must maintain current and valid national certification once acquired.
  • Specialized skills and knowledge of technical pharmaceutical work, and a thorough knowledge of the routines and procedures of the pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of accounting, recordkeeping, and filing for the purpose of performing stock management functions.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical products, pharmacy practices, and mathematics for the purpose of assisting registered pharmacists in the preparation of medication orders.
  • Knowledge of physical, psychological, and behavioral characteristics pertaining to the various age groups for which care is provided.
  • Knowledge of word processing and typing for the purpose of performing routine clerical duties.
  • A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Incumbent may be required to workday and evening shifts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Similar work experience in a healthcare, clinic or hospital environment.
  • Skills in operating electronic health record system as well as in office automation equipment and software.
  • Bilingual skills in English and the Keres native language.
  • Prior experience working with Indian Health Services (IHS), a Tribe, or Tribal organization.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time. This position may be exposed to certain health risks that are inherent when working within a health center facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, and reading. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors and staff.
Common hazards associated with this position are cuts, scrapes, bumps, falls and the possibility of getting hit from falling objects.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

All employees must uphold all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent. This position has access to sensitive information and a breach of these principles will be grounds for immediate termination.
