CONTROLLER, ASSET SERVICES
Department: Asset Services | Reports to: President, Asset Services | Exempt |
JOB SUMMARY
In partnership with the Asset Services Team, the Controller will provide leadership, mentorship, coaching and direction to the accounting team. The Controller will be responsible for managing the reporting demands of the Asset Services division to ensure timely and accurate delivery of client financials, ensuring standardized practices and protocols, and enhancing quality control and oversight. The Controller will have oversight of all Accounting functions, including client financial reporting, annual budgeting process with heavy involvement in creation, monthly revenue analysis and financial reviews, and Asset Services cash management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manage and lead an Accounting team of approximately 35 members, which range from Accounting Associates, Jr. Property Accountants, Property Accountants, Sr. Property Accountants and Accounting Managers
  • Manage all relations within Asset Services Accounting to include recruitment, onboarding, supervision, scheduling, training, development, evaluation and disciplinary action of employees
  • Manage the top 10 Client Relationships in conjunction with the Asset Services Market Leaders
  • Partner with Property Team in managing salary reimbursements revenue calculations and billing
  • Partner with Property Team with tracking and preparation of annual CAM reconciliations and estimates
  • Partner with President, Asset Services and Asset Services Market Leaders in preparing corporate annual budgets accurately and on time
  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with all divisions, including Engineering and Corporate Accounting
  • Timely and accurate preparation of all financial reports to internal and external clients
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and adjustments
  • Provide coaching, direction and leadership to the Accounting team in order to achieve company and client results
  • Promote and maintain a positive working environment in alignment with Kidder Mathews core values
  • Create and maintain, in conjunction with the entire accounting team, a comprehensive Accounting Processes and Procedures Manual to enforce and monitor compliance and the integrity of the financial data within the team and data to corporate accounting
  • Regularly review and update internal control processes to address any identified weaknesses
  • Manage and administer all audit requests from clients and/or government / regulatory agencies
  • Manage and maintain the integrity of tenant data in property management accounting system
  • Support accounting team with all month end processes, including review or preparation of accruals or financial analysis for Property Managers/Owners
  • Prepare periodic reforecasts as required by Client
  • Periodically audit monthly reports prepared by team for accuracy

EDUCATION
  • BA/BS in Accounting or a combination of education and experience – CPA designations required
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • 10 years accounting experience with 5 years in the commercial property management industry
  • Experience with commercial leases and vendor contracts
  • 7 years supervisory experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong knowledge of accounting processes and procedures
  • Proficient in the following programs:
  • Yardi, Skyline, MRI, Avid, Kardin, ClickPay, Office365

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is a standard office environment with standard office noise like talking, office equipment, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is often active and may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching. The employee must sometimes lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds. The employee must frequently sit and use a computer for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities are required to do this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Has supervisory responsibilities for up to 35 direct and/or indirect reports.
