BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
Primary Purpose
  • Work as a leader and provide mentorship to organize and direct efforts toward meeting project goals for the corrosion / coatings group.
  • Provide leadership including project scope development, scheduling, prioritization of tasks, cost estimating, and coordination with terminal operations, design engineering, project execution and EHS.
  • Oversee and ensure all compliance and regulatory requirements are met for the facilities Atmospheric Corrosion Survey, API 570, CP, Coatings, PSM / RMP programs.
  • Lead and provide a high level of guidance to operate and maintain support for the cathodic protection (CP) and coatings (CIP) of the facilities, through planning and implementation of corrosion control activities for pipelines, tanks, and associated equipment.
Essential Dutied and Responsibilities:
  • Attend and oversee both internal and external compliance and regulatory driven audits.
  • Oversee and manage internal and external resources to produce effective cost estimates.
  • Effectively plan, schedule, and manage multiple sustaining capital and OPEX projects while ensuring all stakeholders requirements are met.
  • Report sustaining capital and OPEX budgets and schedules to stakeholders.
  • Oversee and assign execution plans for maintenance capital and expansion projects.
  • Provide technical support as needed to help develop effective CP and coatings systems for tanks, piping and associated equipment.
  • Work with operations and maintance personnel of different facilities helping to resolve issues while building positve relationships.
  • Work with project managers and EHS groups to ensure compliance with Corporate, Federal and State documentation requirements are met for all projects.
  • Assign coating inspections and repairs on terminal facilities such as tanks, piping etc.
  • Investigate corrosion problems in the field through survey work and/or research and may coordinate some activities with other companies and /or vendors when necessary.
  • Resolve cathodic protection and interference problems including measures to be taken, as well as any system adjustments.
  • Design corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems through complex activities including specification, calculations, graphic and statistical analysis, evaluation of survey data; confer with departments responsible for contracts, environmental compliance and right-of-way procurement.
  • Manage and assign both DOT and Non-DOT corrosion control PMs such as test leads inspection, close interval survey, transformer-rectifiers inspections, corrosion coupon inspections, underwater river crossing inspections and complete necessary field and paper works.
  • Diagnose and repair various cathodic protection system components, such as buried cables, transformer-rectifiers, remote monitoring units as required.
  • Respond to emergency leak repairs in a timeley manner
EducationPosition Requirements
  • Associate degree in a technical field, or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Experience in management techniques including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control systems, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting is a plus.
Experience/Specific Knowledge
  • Experience, Specific Knowledge, Certification, Licenses:
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 year's experience in corrosion control of external and internal systems involving the design, construction, inspection and operation of facilities associated with hazardous liquid terminals, truck loading terminals, marine docks.
  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and various state counterparts.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs and other diagrams.
  • Familiarity with API, AMPP/ NACE CIP and CP standards, and recommended practices.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certifications in NACE / AMPP CIP (2) & CP (2) preferred. API 570 would be considered a plus, although not required.

  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be accountable and take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Organizational skills, multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Physical Demands: Must have the ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend and twist while working. Other physical activities include seeing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data, operate and computer and read.
Working Conditions
  • Must be willing and able to work in a corporate office environment.
  • Must be willing and able to work in the outside in the plant environment, in all types of climatic conditions and close to the water.
  • Occasional travel to other field or corporate locations may be required depending on nature of ongoing work activities (approximately 10% to 15%).
  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.
  • Subject to PHMSA compliant drug testing program.
  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities. Essentially indoors but must be able to work outdoors as required in support of project and maintenance activities.
  • Must be willing and able to carry a cell phone and to respond when contacted.
Supervisory Responsibility: Technical work direction and oversight of assigned staff for assigned projects.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities: Certifications in API 570 would be considered a plus, although not required.
