Job Description: The Harvest Specialist is responsible for executing and managing the harvesting process of cannabis plants, ensuring that all plants are harvested at peak potency and quality. This role involves working closely with the cultivation team to coordinate harvest schedules, implement best practices for cutting, drying, bucking, curing, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. The Cannabis Harvest Specialist ensures that all harvested cannabis meets the highest standards for potency, appearance, and overall quality. Duties & Responsibilities: Harvest Planning and Coordination:
Collaborate with the cultivation team to develop and implement harvest schedules based on plant maturity, strain characteristics, and production goals
Monitor the health and readiness of plants to determine the optimal harvest time
Coordinate with team members to ensure efficient and timely harvesting of cannabis crops
Harvest Execution:
Oversee and participate in the cutting, drying, bucking, and curing of cannabis plants
Ensure all cannabis is handled with care to preserve trichomes and maintain potency
Implement best practices for minimizing waste and maximizing yield during the harvest process
Quality Control:
Conduct detailed inspections throughout the harvest, drying, and bucking process to ensure that all cannabis meets quality standards for appearance, aroma, and cannabinoid content
Identify and address any issues related to mold, pests, or other contaminants
Maintain detailed records of harvest data, including yield, potency, and quality metrics
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all harvest operations comply with local and state cannabis regulations, including tracking and reporting requirements
Promote a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and providing necessary training on PPE and safe handling of cannabis
Respond to any incidents or accidents promptly and report them to management
Equipment and Resource Management:
Maintain and manage harvesting equipment, including bucking machines, drying racks, and curing containers
Coordinate the availability of necessary resources, such as tools, PPE, and transport containers
Troubleshoot and resolve any equipment issues that occur during the harvest and bucking process
Process Improvement:
Continuously seek opportunities to improve harvest processes, including harvesting, drying, and curing techniques, to enhance product quality and efficiency
Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in cannabis cultivation and harvesting
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1-3 years experience in a related position
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred
Must be 21 years of age or older and able to successfully register with the state’s cannabis commission as an agent
Required Skills & Abilities:
Willing to learn about, operate, and maintain facility equipment in a safe manner
Comfortable with heights, soil and water, and tight spaces
Ability to safely climb, squat, bend, twist, kneel and stand for at least 8 hours per day, and lift up to 50 pounds
Must comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry
Basic knowledge of plant structure and horticulture preferred
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
Industry & Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in indoor grow environments with varying temperatures and humidity levels
Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and repetitive tasks for extended periods
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays during peak harvest periods
