King County is Hiring a Custodian - Floor Care Near Seattle, WA

The Building Operations Section in the King County's Facilities Management Division is looking for dependable Floor Care Custodians who will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the floors in King County buildings and any other place where applicable. We are looking for reliable floor care experts who have the ability to complete projects independently or in concert with team members.

  • Shift is Monday - Friday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM. 
  • Qualified candidates must be available to work this shift.
  • Location is Downtown Seattle.

BOS maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several of Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 8 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems. Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. BOS provides custodial services, maintenance and building operations, building security and tenant improvement project work.   • *Restore various floors with specialized floor equipment. 
  • Stripping and waxing floors with specialized floor equipment. 
  • Steam clean and extract carpets with specialized floor equipment.
  • Perform assigned maintenance to various floors utilizing specialized equipment. 
  • Ability to maintain assigned equipment and tools.
  • Safely operate equipment and County-owned vehicles.
  • Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
 
*Specialized floor equipment may include shop vacuums, mops, scrubbing pads, scrapers, motorized burnishes and scrubbers, and various types of extraction machines.
  • At least one year of demonstrated building maintenance, floorcare or custodial experience. 
  • *Demonstrated skill operating specialized floor equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques and standards. Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and safety rules.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and lift, carry, move or handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, report concerns / issues in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to assess flooring conditions, determine proper action steps and work through difficult projects in coordination with co-workers, Lead & Supervisor.
  • Identify various flooring types and their required maintenance or restoration. Demonstrated record of continuously reliable attendance.
*Candidates will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skill operating floor equipment during a practical exercise.ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION
  • This position is overtime eligible. Full-time positions work 40 hours per week.
  • The shift we have available is Monday - Friday 4:00 PM to 12:30 am. You must be available to work this shift. The hours are subject to change, but at this time, that is the greatest need.
  • The central location for this position will be Downtown Seattle.
  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 925.
  • This position will work in secure facilities, and it is required that you pass a thorough background check and physical examination prior to being hired.
  • This position has been designated Mission Critical in an Emergency, which means that you perform functions which cannot be delayed in the event of an emergency.
