Norton Healthcare is Hiring a Med Surg,LPN/Registered Nurse, FT36, 7a-7p Near Madison, IN

Responsibilities:

LPN:

Working under routine supervision, utilizes regulatory and HIPAA requirements, cultural sensitivity guidelines, Indiana Nurse Practice Act, infection control requirements, and NKDH organizational and nursing values, policies, and procedure, to ensure safe, quality patient care for all age groups.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Rooms patients, records vital signs/medical data, records information in EMR, prepares treatment rooms and patients for examination
Administers medications, starts/discontinues IVs, draws blood, etc. according to the Delineation of Duties
Provides quality patient care and treatment, with attention to continuity of care and patient advocacy, while maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for the patient and family
Utilizes proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for safety of self, patient, and other staff
Provides patient and family teaching
Documentation of care completed in the electronic health record
Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations
Facilitates communication between the physician/APN and patient/family
Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient, family and coworkers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone
Ensures work areas and patient rooms are safe, clean and orderly
Participates in departmental QAPI process and patient experience initiatives as an active bedside nurse.

RN:

Working under moderate supervision, utilizes the nursing process and professional standards of practice to provide for the immediate and short-term nursing care needs and goals while planning for long-term nursing care needs and goals of patients in compliance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, regulatory requirements, HIPAA, and NKDH organizational, infection control, and nursing values, policies, and procedures. Delivers care to patients in age groups as defined by areas of practice: 3 Medical/Pediatrics - pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric with occasional neonate; 4 Medical/Surgical - adult & geriatric, Mother/Baby - predominately neonate, adolescent and adult with occasional geriatric; ICU - adult and geriatric with occasional adolescent. Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides excellent patient care and treatment, with attention to continuity of care and patient advocacy, while maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for the patient and family

  • Utilizes proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for patient and staff safety

  • Provides patient and family teaching

  • Documentation of care completed in the electronic health record

  • Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations

  • Facilitates communication between the physician/APN and patient/family

  • Performs initial and on-going assessments as needed or prescribed by policy, then plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients and families

  • Uses ethical principles, collaboration, and evidence based practice to coordinate with the patient/family, nursing, and interdisciplinary team for daily patient care

  • Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient, family and coworkers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone

  • Ensures work areas are clean and orderly

  • Participates in departmental QAPI process and patient experience initiatives.

  • May be asked to assist with patient care in any area of the hospital, as needed.

Qualifications:

LPN

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program and possessing Indiana LPN licensure
  • Basic understanding of behaviors and needs appropriate to age in order to support provision of an individualized plan of care
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Good communication and computer skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Accountable for own actions, personal growth and skill development, seeks advice and assistance when necessary
  • Obtains AHA BLS within one year of employment and maintains certification.

Required:

New RN: graduate of a nationally accredited nursing ASN or BSN program. Possesses and maintains Indiana RN licensure.

Experienced RN: possesses and maintains Indiana RN licensure.

  • Ability to provide compassion, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and critical thinking in a therapeutic environment appropriate to age and diagnosis of patients served

  • Excellent oral communication skills to discuss patient care needs

  • Excellent non-verbal communication skills (presence, touch, eye contact, etc.) with patients, families and other staff

  • Written communication skills as well as computer skills for documentation in the medical record

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment as well as to react quickly, appropriately, and efficiently in any situation

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, as well as human and psycho-social needs, and the ability to apply nursing techniques to patient care situations and provide an individualized plan of care to the patient

  • Demonstrates accountability for own actions, understands own limitations, seeks advice and assistance when necessary, and assumes responsibility for personal growth and skill development

  • Maintains AHA BLS. ICU, Mother/Baby, and Pediatric trained nurses must be NRP, PALS, and/or ACLS trained, as appropriate to their area, and maintain the certification.
