Summary

JOB SUMMARY
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Verify the medical order and protocol.
- Complete and verify documentation.
- Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  Follow procedural protocols [to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify and report signal abnormalities.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Assist with appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Comply with the Sleep Lab and professional association's Standards of Conduct.
- Ensure ongoing Sleep Lab compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the Sleep Lab meets or exceeds accreditation standards; and implement ‘’best practices’’ in all departmental activities.
- Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
  Participate in the Sleep Lab’s Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Direct and participate in Sleep Lab committees when requested.
  Pursue continuing education programs appropriate to job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Constantly works near moving mechanical parts

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

- Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).

- Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
- Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
