Job DescriptionKIPP Chicago seeks a full-time Student Information Systems Analyst for our Regional Data Team. This hybrid (3 days in-person, 2 days remote) position is based in Chicago, IL and has a start date of July 1, 2024. The Student Information Systems Analyst reports to our Managing Director of Data Engineering and Analytics and collaborates extensively with our Systems Analyst, Regional Operations Team, and School Based Teams. They will use their data management and analysis skills to ensure educational equality and equity.
The KIPP Chicago Data Team serves an internal advisory function, supporting schools and regional teams (academic, operations, talent, and alumni support) with analysis, prediction, and data systems support. The Data Team’s work runs the gamut from performing ad hoc analyses and decision support for regional leaders to servicing the software necessary for everyday learning. A significant portion of our work involves coordinating various software platforms, Google Cloud Platform products, and Python and SQL in use and in production.
The Student Information Systems Analyst’s top priorities are ensuring that the student information system (SIS) that supports teaching and learning in our schools operates efficiently and produces accurate student information. This may mean troubleshooting with school operations staff or analyzing data with our data team. No day is typical, but there are cycles throughout the year. There is systems turn-over, set-up, and rostering at the start of the school year. In the middle of the year are interim assessments and pilots of new technology. The end of the year sees many compliance and data reconciliation tasks come to the fore. The Student Information Systems Analyst is responsible for the following:
Student Information System Management (PowerSchool) (65%)
  • Act as a subject matter expert at KIPP Chicago Schools for PowerSchool SIS and PowerSchool Enrollment working with school based teams on planning, training, and support
  • Project manages the daily use of Powerschool for student information management, attendance, enrollment, etc, including for example the processes for in-year student enrollments and withdrawals - identify and correct system errors to minimize or eliminate impact on teachers, students and daily instruction
  • Direct the rostering and scheduling work for the entire KIPP Chicago network, with particular focus on the alignment of course scheduling with city and state accountability requirements
  • Establish the processes and systems needed to ensure the accurate, consistent treatment of grades and report cards across KIPP Chicago Schools
  • Coordinate staff on-boarding as it relates to account provisioning and initial training
  • Develop detailed, well-structured, and differentiated training to cover essentials of managing the systems throughout the school year for regional leaders, school leaders, teachers, office managers, and other school staff
  • Audit information, correct errors, and build skill in users as necessary to proactively prevent future errors
  • Document the practices, protocols, and systems developed for the SIS in order to ensure consistent and accurate practices going forward
  • Travel to school sites to build relationships and assess strengths and needs of each instance of SIS
Data Reporting (20%)
  • Support regional compliance efforts by exporting and analyzing data from PowerSchool as well as KIPP Chicago’s data warehouse
  • Assist the data and technology teams as needed to ensure that the reporting of student information to external stakeholders (such as CPS and ISBE) is accurate and correct
  • Assist the data team as needed to ensure internal progress monitoring of student achievement is accurate and correct
  • Project manage report card publishing process at the quarterly mark throughout the year
Data Team Support (15%)
  • Support integration of student information system student rosters with educational technology rosters through Clever
  • Support relationships between schools and ed tech companies, troubleshooting and diagnosing issues and elevating problems to vendors when necessary
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to uphold weekly hybrid working expectations of 3 days in-person, 2 days remote
  • Has access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to support 8 schools across the West and South sides of Chicago
  • Has a demonstrated ability to successfully manage and lead multiple stakeholders, partners, and audiences in a K-12 environment
  • Has experience configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining PowerSchool (strongly preferred) or a similar student data system, preferably across multiple schools
  • Outstanding project management, organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail
  • Self-starter with demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to critically assess challenges and identify effective solutions
  • Demonstrated success in working as part of a complex team, in a fast-paced environment to meet and exceed goals aligned with strategic educational objectives
  • You should have proficiency with these technical skills, although the right candidate can pick up others on the job:
    • Using spreadsheet or database software to analyze and interpret data
    • Reconciling data from disparate sources and systems
    • Working reproducibly (so that colleagues can follow and extend your work)
    • Performing and interpreting basic data analysis
  • Strong written and oral communication skills: You share the appropriate amount, at the appropriate level for the audience, in a clear and compelling way
  • Comfort with receiving and sharing constructive feedback
  • A cleared CPS Background Check by first date of employment
