Job SummaryThe ELL Manager role is an integral part of the Student Support team, ensuring that our students identified as English Language Learners are provided with individualized, tailored services to develop their English proficiency and meet challenging state academic standards. The starting salary range for this role is $78,777-$93,782. This is a full-time, fully on-site role based at HDQ School-based: Multiple Schools with an anticipated start date of ASAP.

About the teamThe Student Support Team (SST) plays a pivotal role in achieving KIPP DC's mission by directly addressing the needs of students. Our core function as a team is to create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically by providing early intervention, accommodations, and specially designed instruction. We collaborate with school teams, teachers, and related service providers to develop and implement individualized plans that support a student’s academic, behavioral, and/or social-emotional needs to ensure access to high quality general education curriculum.About the RoleThe ELL Manager is responsible for expanding and developing our ELL program to meet the needs of our 6-12 grade students, direct service implementation for our students, monitor and analyze the progress of our ELL students toward their annual goals and overseeing the annual State Testing (ACCESS) through collaboration with OSSE. Location and Type of WorkHDQ-School-based: Multiple Schools | Full-TimeResponsibilities

Program Development, Service Delivery and Professional Development - (60%)

  • Develop a high quality program based on research and best practices to meet the needs of students who are identified as ELL
  • Provide instruction to students to address all aspects of communication that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Collaborate with general education on modifications and accommodations to lesson plans and Provide Professional Development sessions to school teams

Identification & Service Delivery Oversight (20%)

Grades 6-12

  • Oversee the implementation of appropriate screening tools to identify incoming, new to KIPP DC students who qualify for ELL services and the Home Language Survey (HLS) enrollment results
  • Develop a service delivery schedule with pull-out and inclusion services for students across secondary schools and create an ELL Implementation Plans for each ELL Student 
  • Review data on students identified as "monitoring status" to ensure continued success with their English proficiency after testing out of active ELL programming 
  • Coordinate with Student Support for students who are dual identified as ELL and a student with a disability (IEP/504)

State Testing Coordination (20%)

High School

  • KIPP DC point of contact for annual ACCESS 2.0 Testing and manage the WIDA Testing Platform 
  • Create ACCESS Testing Plans and Submit to OSSE through the OSSE Support Tool 
  • Create Network Testing Plans & Coordinate with key stakeholders for testing days 
  • Serve as KIPP DCs Testing Coordinator during ACCESS Testing days to submit test security tickets to OSSE 
  • Analyze ACCESS Testing scores (upon completion) and communicate with key stakeholders (teachers/families) regarding ACCESS Outcomes
Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum required)
  • 3-5 years of ELL teaching experience (this should be specific)
  • 2 years of HS ELL teaching experience
  • TESOL or TEFL certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in one or more additional languages
  • Experience in backward planning, data analysis, and coaching/developing other teachers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to travel between campuses as needed.

  • The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $78,777-$93,782. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, and paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, and spring break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
