The Opportunity
The Regional Facilities Director is responsible for ensuring that all KIPP Texas students have access to clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities & grounds within one or more cities (“Regions”). As a key member of the statewide Facilities leadership team, the Regional Facilities Director will report to the Senior Director of Facilities. The Regional Facilities Director will oversee Regional Facilities Managers, participate in real estate acquisition to support school growth plans, support the construction of new facilities, and help lead other capital facilities projects for the Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas-Fort Worth regions. The Regional Facilities Director will do this by developing and implementing scalable processes & systems, guiding the team towards efficiencies, and supporting day-to-day challenges while driving customer service excellence across KIPP Texas.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the cleaning and maintenance of all current campuses to internal service levels
Monitor and support Regional Facilities Managers on day-to-day operational services while driving standardization and efficiency across the state
Create, train, and implement standard processes and systems aimed at improving the statewide team’s performance on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Build on a data-based and continuous improvement culture across the facilities teams by conducting regular assessments of our facilities and providing precise and effective feedback
Actively manage the regional facilities' operating budget and own the development of the annual budget for the department
Cultivate and maintain relationships with Managing Directors of Operations across regions to enlist assistance from school operations and ensure each facility meets school operations’ needs
Serves as the on-call point of contact for all escalations and crisis situations stemming from issues impacting the facility.
Work closely with the statewide Facilities Department to develop and execute the region’s facilities plans including growth
Work closely with the start-up teams for each new location to ensure campuses are launched effectively
Serves as liaison between KIPP Texas statewide construction and design teams, regional stakeholders, and other consultants in the design and renovation of properties within the region
Oversee the identification, budget identification, prioritization, and execution of local capital facilities projects/summer projects with support from the statewide Facilities groups
Participate in statewide quality control programs and audits of facilities-related services
Managing People
Responsible for overall team management, performance reviews, and staff development
Create career development plans for direct reports to ensure the personal and professional growth of the facilities team
Build relationships and lead by example
Establish a data-driven culture that tackles challenging problems and verifies the results with measurable data
Take on additional roles and responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum of 5-10 years of facilities/maintenance experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred; Work experience in a related field can be substituted in lieu of degree
Excellent interpersonal skills and an energetic attitude; ability to work with all levels of the organization
Proven ability in stakeholder management, communication, and follow-through
Exceptional project management skills, with an ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
Experience in facilities required
Experience in education preferred
Experience developing, implementing, and refining systems, processes, and/or protocols
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Keen ability to use data in the decision-making process
Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during many changing circumstances
Ability to lead, manage, and support a large, diverse team
Flexible and entrepreneurial spirit; ability to adapt to the quickly changing needs of KIPP
Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement
Strong service orientation
Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision, and values of KIPP; comfort and willingness to actively participate in the school community
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
English fluency is required; Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Reliable transportation required (may be required to drive to different facilities or to pick up supplies during the workday)
Flexibility in work schedule
Available and dependable for after hours and weekend issues impacting facilities (may be required to verify building functionality after significant weather events, or on call for major situations impacting electrical, plumbing, or other)
Compensation & Benefits
Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
