Pain Science Physical Therapy (established in 2009 and formerly known as Lake Burien Physical Therapy) is a community-based PT clinic in Burien, Washington (20 minutes south of Seattle and 10 minutes from Seatac Airport). PSPT was founded by Orit Hickman PT DPT TPS who has over 22 years of clinical experience (and she still treats patients!). The company rebranded July of 2021 to Pain Science PT to reflect the direction our treatment focus has taken. All clinicians in the company utilize a biopsychosocial approach to treatment. The company is known for its use of Pain Neuroscience Education and Graded Motor Imagery in the treatment of patients with nociplastic pain.
Our core values include the following:
- Balance: this is something we are constantly striving for- an example would be treating patients for 45 minutes one-on-one with no double-booking allowed; having 5 total weeks off in the year between holidays and PTO to allow for staff to recharge!; having quarterly ‘FUN DAYS’ to give the team an opportunity to build rapport with each other and tackle big projects
- Positivity: this is our attitude-an example is trying to provide a positive and healthy environment for our patients who are often feeling defeated by persistent pain; we are also a dog-friendly clinic and our staff have anywhere from 1-3 dogs in the clinic at a time.
- Conscious Growth Mindset: this is our focus as we continue to grow and build—an example would be the company ladder that was implemented in 2020 to help all who want to advance in the company have a clear path to do so.
- Committed to Excellence: this is evidence-based practice and we are committed to this- an example of this would be our weekly journal club meetings, attending conferences such as CSM and Align (through EIM) ; also all clinicians are expected to be clinical instructors once they are trained to do so.
Our mission is “to be the difference that instills hope”.
We are looking for full-time clinicians to join our team. New graduates are highly encouraged to apply (and will participate in a 6 month mentorship program). All new-hires are trained in PNE and GMI.
All full-time employees receive the following benefits
- Full healthcare and dental benefits covered by the company
- 3 weeks of PTO 7 major holidays AND we are closed Christmas to New Years (another full week off!)
- 3% Simple IRA match by the company
- Bridge insurance coverage provided by Colonial Insurance
- Profit sharing program
- Medbridge annual subscription and then CEU dollars as you move up the company ladder
Our ideal candidate is strongly interested in Pain Science and being trained in utilizing this treatment approach. A full-time clinician treats no more than 50 patients per week with initial evaluations limited per day to prevent overload. We treat in person as well as telehealth for those patients who are unable to travel to the clinic. The ideal candidate also matches our core values.
Please feel free to reach out with questions about the position. Please submit a cover letter with your resume detailing why you feel you would be a good fit for the position.
