KMRG, LLC is Hiring a Legal Assistant Near Orleans, LA

ROLEWe are looking for an experienced Legal Assistant to support the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana (USAO EDLA). Your scope of work includes providing comprehensive docketing support, maintaining and managing automated records, and ensuring efficient data handling and document processing within the office.

ResponsibilitiesI. Legal Support:
  • Provide routine docketing support services
  • Work with AUSA and legal support staff to verify case information
  • Perform routine factual research to correct and update case records
  • Review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal (e.g., Motions, Briefs, etc.)
  • Receive inquiries on case status
II. Data Management:
  • Maintain and extract data from automated docketing databases and systems
  • Input information into databases and systems and update records
  • Develop and maintain automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure
  • Update databases and systems to record status changes in all items docketed
  • Close cases out of the system when the closing form is received
  • Extract requested program or statistical data when requested
III. Document Handling:
  • Receive and review incoming case files and documents
  • Perform initial analysis of content to determine the nature of the USAO's interest and cause of action
  • Accept service of legal documents from opposing counsel or representatives
  • Enter pertinent information into the docketing system and route to appropriate USAO employee
  • Ensure proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar on all documentation
IV. Reporting:
  • Scan reports to identify errors
  • Review recurring reports (e.g., weekly reports of new claims, matter and cases) to respond to inquiries
  • Retrieve information using routine queries or from hard copy reports
V. Office Automation:
  • Produce routine and recurring written documents and materials using a variety of office automation applications
  • Integrate output from different software types into word processing or desktop publishing text
  • Produce tables, graphs, and charts for legal documents or courtroom presentations
  • Use MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access, and other databases as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional
VI. Communication:
  • Exercise confidentiality, tact, discretion, and judgment in determining what information may be properly released
  • Work as a team player in a professional office
  • Meet established deadlines
BACKGROUND
  • Proficient in use Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other databases (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.)
  • Experience with docketing software preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Progressive and relevant experience
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Other Considerations. Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
