ROLEWe are seeking an experienced Legal Document Analyst to support the Department of Justice (DOJ), Executive Office of the United States Attorneys (EOUSA). The EOUSA’s mission is to provide executive assistance, policy development, administrative management, operational support, and liaison services for the 94 United States Attorneys’ Offices (USAOs). As part of this mission, EOUSA offers financial litigation guidance and services to the USAOs, leading the DOJ in issues related to financial litigation and criminal debt enforcement. Your role will involve performing data entry, evaluation, and analytical services to support the Financial Litigation Programs (FLPs). Review incoming material and create routine and complex debt records
Enter data into database for cases such as special assessment, fines, restitution, and joint and several debts
Compile case-related information to ensure a complete debt record in the database
Submit the completed case information to the appropriate district’s FLP
Conduct quality control review of team members’ work to ensure data accuracy in the database
Research and post payments to ensure timely posting to debts in the database
Review reports to identify expired debts to be closed in the database according to established procedures
Enter event codes associated with enforcement actions into the database to reflect accurate accomplishments
II. Analysis & Reporting:
Perform on-line data searches to retrieve documentation and analyze data from multiple sources
Create and manipulate spreadsheets to track assignments or review and analyze management reports
Analyze debtor’s ability to pay a debt based on Government collection standards and third-party searches
Make recommendations to the FLP regarding the collectability of a debt
Create and manipulate spreadsheets to report completed work and support analysis
Produce various written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications
Use database applications, charts, and graphs into word processing documents, presentations, or spreadsheets
Ensure proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar of all written documents
Retrieve and analyze data from multiple sources
III. Collaboration & Communication:
Work with Office of Legal Programs management, Government officials, and/or delinquent judgment debtors
Generate documents that do not require legal interpretation but consider the case’s nature and status
Review information and generate/email instructions for FedWire or Pay.gov
Monitor the status of debtor payment plans to identify deficiencies and send payment reminders to debtors
IV. Specialized Tasks:
Establish high-dollar complex civil debts in the database per FLP and Government Program Manager guidance
Add payee information for both federal and non-federal payees, ensuring amounts match the referral form
Process transfer debts from other litigating divisions as per FLP and Government Program Manager guidance
Assume administrative responsibilities for special assessment-only debts $2,500 and lower
Monitor these cases monthly due to their time-sensitive and critical nature
V. Administrative & Technical Skills:
Edit, reformat, and generate documents using MS Word and other software
Operate office equipment, including computers, photocopiers, telephone systems, and scanners
Work independently with minimal supervision
Ensure accuracy with attention to detail and quality control techniques
Deliver high-quality work under pressure and meet deadlines
BACKGROUND
Minimum 3 years of professional data entry experience
Knowledge of legal procedures, civil/criminal case terminology, legal research, and online information sources
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and various databases and online search engines
EDUCATION
Highschool Diploma or two (2) years of work experience as a Data Analyst
Bachelor’s degree preferred
