Position: Risk Management Specialist

Purpose: We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Risk Management Specialist to join our team. This role focuses on ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations. The Risk Management Specialist will handle legal contracts and compliance, serving as a legal research analyst to interpret and analyze regulations nationwide in the states in which Knobelsdorff operates.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitor and interpret federal and state regulations and ensure compliance with such regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with employment and payroll matters related to the Inflation Reduction Act, Illinois Shines Program, and apprenticeship requirements.
  • Develop and implement compliance strategies to ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations across all states where we operate.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and prepare reports on compliance status and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee state licensing requirements and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for all states we operate in.

Legal Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct thorough legal research on regulations and policies affecting our operations nationwide.
  • Analyze and interpret legal documents, contracts, and regulatory requirements to provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Stay updated on legal trends and changes in legislation that may impact the company.
  • Partner with outside attorneys to manage legal exposure on all contractual matters.

Contract Management:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate legal documents related to projects, customers, subcontractors, and other business partners, ensuring they comply with federal and state laws and achieve business objectives.
  • Monitor risk exposure between owner and subcontractor/supply agreements to identify and remove or mitigate exposure.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure contracts align with company policies and risk management strategies.
  • Oversee, track, and participate in the management/flow of contracts and contract exhibits after the project has been awarded through full contract execution.
  • Building and maintaining outside legal relationships required to understand and navigate contractual risk.
  • Review and analyze complex contracts, verifying accuracy and resolving discrepancies in line with company policies and other requirements.
  • Provide ongoing contract management support and training, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements with both internal personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Review Master Subcontractor Agreements, Work Order Contracts, etc. and make recommendations and or changes to protect Knobelsdorff’s legal position.

Apprenticeship Program Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with state-specific apprenticeship program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant regulatory bodies and apprenticeship program administrators.
  • Monitor and report on apprenticeship program compliance and performance.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential legal and compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial officer to minimize company risk and ensure audit readiness.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on compliance-related matters.
  • Coordinate with insurance brokers, carriers and bonding companies on items related to policies and claims.
  • Manage the physical property and vehicle insurance policies, process claims and ensure coverage is monitored and kept current.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in law, business law, finance, business administration, or a related field. 
  • A paralegal degree, Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent legal qualification is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of theory and practice of contract management and corporate governance.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal research, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years working with construction contracts is highly preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of the Inflation Reduction Act, Illinois Shines Program, and Apprenticeship requirements is preferred but not required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory environments.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents and regulations.
