Senior Project Engineer, New Product Development with Kohler Energy

The Senior Project Engineer, New Product Development (NPD ) will Provide technical direction and project leadership on the development of power generation solutions along with Coordinating and guiding the efforts of CAD Design Analysts, Engineering Analysts and Lab Technicians for the Home Energy Team.

Job duties are as follows:

1. Assist in establishing product requirements with Marketing Product Managers. Use those requirements to write functional specifications establishing design targets.
2. Provide schedule input to project timelines. Provide preliminary project spending estimates. Work with marketing to present project business cases.
3. Provide technical and design direction to CAD Design Analysts and other Engineers. Design assigned products to meet performance and cost criteria.
4. Approve the selection of all major purchased components (i.e., alternators, controllers, inverters, batteries, enclosures, etc.) and support the selection with sound engineering calculations.
5. Work with accounting and procurement functions to track actual project spending and product costs keeping them within prescribed boundaries.
6. Validate designs through testing to meet performance, reliability, and durability targets.
7. Support, maintain, and update existing product designs.
8. Utilize Design for Environment principles in product development to achieve sustainability goals.
9. Use project management skills to keep projects on schedule.
10. Provide concise and timely status reports on the progress of each assigned project.
11. Lead continual improvement initiatives to streamline internal business processes and support systems upgrades.
12. Mentor less senior engineers in the product development process.

Skills/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program required.
• 2-5 years of mechanical engineering experience with development of new consumer products
• Educational courses or experience related to internal combustion engines is preferred.
• Power generation/genset experience is a plus.
• Must have demonstrated skills in project management and leadership as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
