Korn Ferry has partnered with our client on their search for the role, Controller, Development.

The Controller will manage the accounting activity and financial reporting for the department and all development projects/entities. The individual will oversee all aspects of the accounting function and analyze the financial status of the development organization, working with the Chief Financial Officer, and Corporate Controller to develop and carry out long-term financial goals. They will direct preparation of all financial reports, statements, audits, operating budgets, and controls.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supervise development accounting department staff and resources. Lead, mentor, and manage the team, and be accountable for all work produced.
• Complete 2 2’s; participate in hiring and selection of staff. Motivate, empower, encourage staff, retaining Top-graded employees.
• Evaluate and review accounting procedures and control to ensure accurate financial reporting, adequate safeguarding of company assets and efficient utilization of personnel.
• Ensure timely preparation of best-in-class financial reports to management. Continuously review reports for accuracy, reliability and usefulness.
• Oversee the monthly financial statement preparation for the development business unit and coordinate with the CFO on the final presentation of the financial results to corporate management and outside investors, as necessary.
• Coordinate the month-end and year-end closing process for development division.
• Aid in creation, preparation and management of the annual business plan, budgets, forecasts and re-forecasts.

The Candidate

Professional Experience/Qualifications

Mandatory Experience/Background: 10 plus years’ experience of progressively responsible accounting work. Must have 5 or more years of experience in Construction and/or Development projects.

• Must be detail oriented and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment. Must possess superior leadership and management skills. Self-driven, highly motivated, with excellent decision making, and problem-solving skills.

Education/Technical

• Minimum of 4-year Degree in Accounting or related field.
• Working knowledge of Sage 300/Timberline; Excellent Excel skills.
• Commercial Development/Multi-Family residential experience. Florida CPA License preferred.
• Produce management reports that summarize and analyze the development division’s historical and projected business activity and financial position and actual results in comparison to budget and reforecasts. Make recommendations based upon the reporting.
• Establish internal control system for the development company, including review/prequalification of subcontracts, payments to vendors, bonding, and review of vendor financial statements.
• Manage the evaluation and potential implementation of a new software management system to facilitate enhanced purchasing and estimating, budget management, competitive and timely payment of trade partners, sales and prospect management and financial reporting
