The Role:

The Test Engineer provides technical expertise to customers both within and outside of the organization. The process requires the correct interpretation and application of customer requirements, industry standards, and design to ensure testing performed meets the level of performance and reliability requirement. This position requires high levels of skills and expertise with Electrical Power, High Voltage Engineering techniques and/or Automated Test Systems.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Define and implement effective testing processes for transformer to meet customer specifications and industry standards (IEEE C57.12.00, C57.12.90) and ensure product shipped is in compliance to these requirements. These include keeping test procedures current in addition to developing new procedure for any new test equipment and processes.

· Create and certify transformer test report on a timely basis and resolve technical problems during and post testing. 

· Remains current with industry and technical developments and maintains a high level of expertise in engineering and testing field. Correctly interprets the customer requirement and industry standards to insure proper testing of the transformer.

· Perform electrical calculation involved with transformer testing like temperature rises and loss calculations. Define/Change test circuits as required to configure power transformer and test equipment for appropriate test

· Define equipment specifications and work with vendors to develop and/or improve test equipment capability. Develop and execute equipment preventive maintenance plan for proper test equipment functioning.

· Provide technical support to troubleshoot transformer & test equipment breakdowns.

· Develop and manage continuous improvement projects towards test process automation/simplification and improving efficiency, accuracy, robustness, and safety involved with testing.

· Reviews and analyses test results using statistical tools and recommend changes to engineering and manufacturing. Use technical skills and analytical tools to troubleshoot test failure & defects and make improvement suggestions.

· Interface with various functions within the organization or customers to review product testing results, issues , nonconformance and potential design and performance problems 

· Trains and coaches test technicians in the proper use of test equipment, application of test processes and the correct interpretation of industry standards, design documents and tools.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Must possess industry knowledge and IEEE standards related to power Transformer

· Familiarity with developing automated and/or High Voltage test Equipment

· Ability to read electrical schematic blueprints as necessary

· Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills

· Knowledge of safety issues regarding power equipment and general high voltage substation environment (Electrical clearance, grounding, PPE, Etc.)

· Must have excellent communication skills (internal and external customers)

· Strong project management skills

Requirements

· Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Power Transformer design/ Testing or other High Voltage Testing or Test System Automation

Preferred Education / Experience

· Testing of large power transformers of 115 KV and above

· Experience with Impulse Test, Partial Discharge measurements

· Experience with industrial controls or test system automation or instrumentation

· Experience with Visual Studio, Visual Basic or Python

· Experience with Labview, PCI, NI/Siemens PLCs
