Job Skills / Requirements
KRC is accepting applications for experienced and qualified Unarmed Security Officers for services at National Agricultural Library (NAL) and United States National Arboretum (USNA). 
Duties/Responsibility
Unarmed Security Officers shall perform all tasks in accordance with the duties outlined within the Post Orders and the Performance Work Statement. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Respond to questions and provide directions to visitors
  • Be mentally alert and physically ready to operate and enforce the Government’s system of personnel identification and access/egress control
  • Be knowledgeable of the location and use of the nearest first aid kit, fire extinguisher, fire alarm, emergency exit, and duress alarm (if any), and shall be ready, willing, and able to use them or take action 100% of the time
  • Control access to areas by observing, detecting, and reporting violations of Post Orders and regulations
  • Work a visitor/s desk shall politely greet and process visitors by verifying visitors’ Government issued pictured identification, contacting sponsors and/or escorts, fabricating and issuing visitor passes, accurately entering and maintaining data in visitor logs
  • Conduct inspections of hand carried items
  • Conduct Roving Patrols (on foot, or in vehicle)/ Active patrolling
  • Immediately respond to security alarm activations
  • When needed, direct traffic and respond to minor vehicle collisions
  • Briefly detain person(s)
  • Assist in the implementation of contingency and emergency actions and serve as the initial liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies
Qualifications
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or Certificate of Completion of General Education Development (GED) requirements
  • Ideal candidate must meet one of the following experience requirements:
    • Three (3) years of security experience within the past five (5) years
    • Three (3) years civilian or military work experience
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook aptitude is desired
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a lawful resident of the U.S
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America (either by birth or Naturalization)
  • Discharged military personnel must have an Honorable, General, or Other Than Honorable discharge. A Dishonorable discharge is not acceptable
  • Must be able to obtain a clearance by the client
Must meet one or more of the following Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in physical security as a security officer, armed or unarmed or
  • Two years (2) of military experience (including Reserves or National Guard) or
  • Successful completion of Police Officer’s Standard Training (POST) academy or
  • Associate degree or higher in a security-related or law enforcement-related field
Physical Demands and Requirements
Expected to be physically able to perform the following tasks or functions in the performance of their assigned duties: 
  • Physically subdue or engage in confrontation with individuals
  • Work under occasional tension or pressure
  • Work alone while unarmed
  • Walking, standing, and sitting
  • Apply handcuffs
  • Respond to life threatening or emergency situations
License Requirements and Certification Requirements
  • Maryland Guard Card or Washington DC SPO License - depending on which location the candidate will work, or openings
  • MEB/OC training and certification
  • First Aid CPR and AED Certification
  • State Issued Driver's License
