What We Are Looking ForA part-time position responsible for assisting the Development Analytics and Gift Processing & Biographical Records departments with various tasks. This includes data clean-up, researching and updating biographical records and contact information, reviewing and processing internal reports, and contributing to the gift intake process.
This is an opportunity to learn the operational side of higher education nonprofit fundraising. Responsibilities include general data entry, assisting with processing gifts, updating an internal donor relationship management database, researching prospects and donors, and performing many other duties required to keep a nonprofit organization functioning. Although this role primarily involves data entry and basic office tasks, it offers opportunities to interact with and learn from various employees at KU Endowment.
This temporary position is open only to students enrolled at the University of Kansas. The individual in this position will work 10-15 hours per week, scheduled between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in person at KU Endowment’s Lawrence office. Employment is evaluated at the end of each 16-week semester and could be extended by mutual agreement. Summer employment may also be considered.
The individual in this position is expected to embrace KU Endowment’s core values – passion for KU, partnership with donors, perpetual support for KU, and a people-centered approach – and demonstrate support for them through professional interactions and activities.
What’s a typical day look like?
  • Use online databases to investigate contact information
  • Manual data entry working directly in a Relationship Management Database
  • Printing, reviewing, and disseminating documents such as tax receipts, acknowledgements, and pledges
  • Review pledges to determine status and purge hard copies of those that are paid in full
  • Utilize internal reporting mechanisms for quality review purposes making corrections and updates under the guidance of department leadership
  • Assist with checking and scanning gift processing mail.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential for this position.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
What’s Required To Be Considered
  • Current KU Student enrolled in six or more credit hours
What separates the best from the rest?
  • High attention to detail as evidenced by application materials
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with any CRM preferred
Physical Requirements
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple locations for training, donor meetings, networking, events and/or work-related activities.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to directions and safety hazards.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office productivity machinery such as computers, keyboards and a mouse, laptops, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with donors, colleagues, students, and general public. Must be able to communicate with others effectively.
  • Physical effort/lifting: sedentary - up to 10 pounds
  • Rare travel: requirements can include the following, evenings, weekends, and out of town overnights as a regular part of the job.
