Position Overview

The Intramural Sports Official is responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment.

Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and sport specific rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety.

Officials should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.

This is a seasonal position with the opportunity to also officiate 3-pitch slow-pitch softball and basketball in the fall semester.

Job Description

Recreation Services and the Intramural Sports program are seeking students to join our team as an Intramural Flag Football Official for the fall 2024 Flag Football season.

The official is responsible for effectively officiating the sport of flag football and the general safety of the participants.

No prior officiating experience is needed. All training will be provided by student Supervisors prior to beginning work.

Participation in Intramural Sports by officials is encouraged!

The duties of an Intramural Sports Officials include, but are not limited to the following :

• Accurate documentation of hours worked
• Minor pre-game field set up
• Unbiased administration of rules decisions based on training for that particular sport
• Verification of final score of all games worked with a signature on each completed score sheet
• Assigning an appropriate Sportsmanship Rating to each team following each contest
• Assisting other officials and / or supervisors in any matters concerning Intramural Sports

Required Qualifications

An applicant for the position of an Intramural Flag Football Official must have :

• Work history that required being moderately physically active for hours at a time (maximum of four hours at a time)
• A baseline knowledge of the sport of football or flag football
• Current NFHS Concussion In Sports Certification or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment
• During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must : 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.

Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

The preferred applicant for the position of an Intramural Flag Football Official will have :

• Previous officiating or sports participation experience
• A willingness to learn and have fun
• A passion for sports
• A positive and enthusiastic attitude
• A professional and cooperative demeanor

• Availability to work on Sundays as evidenced in application material

• Completed onboarding and be approved to begin work by Tuesday, September 10.
