Lévy Gorvy Dayan is Hiring an Artist Liaison Director Near New York, NY

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Programming, the Artist Liaison Director will strengthen the gallery’s program by establishing and nurturing close relationships with select artists, artists studios, and other institutions. The Artist Liaison Director will work in collaboration with these artists on the production and execution of new works, exhibitions in and beyond the gallery’s spaces, art fair presentations, private sales, and general promotion. This critical team member will also participate in strategic planning and financial forecasting for artists with whom our venture will sustain enduring partnerships.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and form relationships with key artists whose work re-enforces the gallery’s vision and adds dimension to its program
  • Liaise between artists, museums, and gallery staff for institutional exhibitions, acting as the main contact at the gallery for project coordination
  • Maintain bonds with artists to secure the best inventory and lead the market, including liaising with artists on the production of new work
  • Ensure artist satisfaction while managing expectations about production costs and other investments assumed by the business
  • Inform staff of major artist milestones well in advance (such as museum exhibitions, publications, awards, press coverage), providing weekly updates on projects and upcoming events, adding to global calendar
  • Develop connections with curators to secure museum exhibitions, programming, and acquisitions on behalf of artists
  • Utilize relationships with museums to establish strategic placement of artists and/or artists works as part of museum’s collections and programming
  • Perform annual surveys to understand the artists’ career ambitions and goals, enabling the venture to advance their specific objectives
  • Document professional and personal details to create and maintain a full picture of each artist. Artist files should be consistent, up-to-date, and templated. Professional documentation includes provenance, sales records, archival material, instructions for installation, and care and maintenance of artworks. Personal details includes studio personnel, travel preferences, birthdays, and gifts
  • Coordinate artist schedules, meetings, and travel for exhibitions, art fairs, and events when relevant
  • Provide marketing and promotional content for review and approval by artists and colleagues
  • Collaborate with the sales team on the realization of sales
  • Create 3-5 year plans for artists

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Must be available for installations, openings and other events as needed, which may take place over weekends, fall outside normal business hours, and/or include travel

EXPERIENCE:

  • BA and/or MA in Art History with a focus on postwar and contemporary art preferred
  • 10 years of experience in a similar role at a gallery, museum, artist studio, or comparable organization
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, and able to learn proprietary art databases

Please note that this is a fully on-site position with the exception of business travel and studio visits.
