The OpportunityLA Family Housing (LAFH) invites a strategic and dynamic Senior Director of Budget to join our Finance Leadership team. In this pivotal role, you will steer fiscal and resource planning, support all departments, and formulate effective budget policy, influencing the long-term financial landscape of LAFH. Your expertise will span diverse areas, including programmatic, operational, real estate, and capital budget development, budget request assessments, and fostering interdepartmental collaboration.

Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate for the Senior Director of Budget at LA Family Housing (LAFH) will have a Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, management, public administration, or a similar field. Advanced degrees such as an MBA or CPA are highly favored. This candidate should come with a minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in budget and financial planning within a large, multifaceted environment, and a minimum of five (5) years of staff supervisory experience.
The strongest candidates will have proven experience in developing programmatic and operating budgets, utilizing rigorous modeling skills and statistical methods for financial planning, analysis, and forecasting. They will have a track record of implementing and enhancing IT systems to support strategic and financial planning, budgeting, and executive decision-making. They will demonstrate the ability to formulate budget policies and align operational priorities with current and future financial resources. Prior experience in non-profit organizations, especially in homeless services or similar complex entities, will set this candidate apart.
Additionally, candidates should possess the following expertise, knowledge, and skills:
ORGANIZATIONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS (FP&A) AND STRATEGY
  • Develop and lead overall organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with planning goals and best practices for resource utilization
  • Manage programmatic, operating, real estate, and capital budgets using long-range financial models and internal controls
  • Provide expert financial and resource planning support to departments, identifying cost savings and revenue growth opportunities
  • Implement mechanisms to review budgetary units and optimize financial resource deployment, promoting efficiency and accountability
  • Collaborate closely with the CFO and Executive Team to understand departmental needs, collect budget information, and model initiatives
  • Lead complex annual planning process, overseeing financial reporting and presenting data to senior leadership
  • Create and maintain management tools, such as profit and loss statements and variance analysis reports
  • Manage a team of financial planning and analysis professionals, ensuring training and professional development
  • Analyze and recommend budgeting enhancements and innovative techniques to inform policy decisions
  • Foster strong working relationships with other departments, implementing projects focused on risk assessment, process improvement, and efficiency
  • Work with the CFO to prioritize initiatives and align financial objectives
CONTRACT & GRANT BUDGETING
  • Develop budgets for contract and grant proposals, prepare financial reports, and track temporary restricted grants
  • Ensure expenditures align with budgets throughout the funding period, managing financial and grants accounting
  • Optimize financial revenue and expense allocation to comply with funding entities and maximize contracts and grants
  • Support the Contract and Compliance Department in monitoring activities related to funding sources
  • Collaborate with the Contracts and Compliance Departments on government audits to ensure funding regulations compliance
Other
  • Promote and support the organization's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and valuing diverse perspectives in budgeting activities
  • Ensure compliance with State regulations, local ordinances, and LAFH's directives through adherence to policies and procedures
  • Stay informed of relevant laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting LAFH's budgeting activities
  • Supervise staff, contractors, and consultants as needed to ensure efficient execution of budgeting activities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to capture, synthesize, and share learning and knowledge outcomes from budgeting activities as necessary
  • Perform additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
CompensationCompensation for this opportunity will begin at approximately $162,000/annually.
