Quality Assurance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Assurance Technician provides quality assurance and quality control support to all areas of the laboratory and supports the Quality Assurance Specialists

SCHEDULE: M-F; 8-4:30 PM

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties reflect key responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Specialists in selecting control material, manufactured products, or in?house preparations; prepare control stocks and working material; maintain check?in data on all control materials including negative urine; perform statistical analysis of data, monitor and evaluate control performance; assist directors and supervisors in troubleshooting QC problems
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Specialists in the labeling and aliquoting of controls and standards; aid in the inventory and storage of controls
  • Maintain appropriate QA/QC department records and documentation and monitor and evaluate laboratory quality records and documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain quality control application database (Athlecon), including new control entry into the system and creating, editing, or modifying test panels
  • Assist in submitting internal proficiency samples for testing, collating data and compiling reports for submission to regulatory agencies
  • Investigate failed assay batches and failed proficiency results with recommendations to laboratory operations regarding corrective actions
  • Provide QA support to all areas that need to evaluate the effectiveness of corrective action implemented and the effectiveness of change made to processes
  • Inventory and order bench supplies as necessary in PeopleSoft
  • Attain vendor quotes on specialty or custom products for troubleshooting or corrective action needs
  • Act as back up for the Quality Assurance Specialists

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent research and problem resolution skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in a laboratory science
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong word processing skills required
  • Detail oriented, excellent planning and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
