**Who We Are:**

Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) is a member-supported public media network whose mission is to strengthen the civic and cultural bonds that unite Southern California's diverse communities by providing the highest quality news and information service on air at 89.3 KPCC, online at LAist.com and through KPCC In Person. Since our founding in 1999, SCPR has been a fast growing, innovative, multi-platform public service newsroom. Every day, our staff helps audiences catch up on the latest headlines, solve the complexities of life in Southern California, and connect curious communities to one another.

**Position Summary:**

KPCC LAist is looking for a host to help create a new, multiplatform daily program that will engage residents over the state of our city and its future. The host should love LA as much as we do and be curious about how its past informs our current debates. You have opinions about In-N-Out, a favorite freeway and understand the severity of the citys housing and climate crises. Youll elevate voices not frequently heard at City Hall and celebrate our world-class arts, food, and culture scenes.

The ideal candidate should be collaborative, creative, and obsessed with building community. The host will work closely with producers (audio and digital), reporters and editors to produce a product that helps people feel more connected to this place. Youll inspire, ask tough questions, and help Angelenos understand how their local issues inform the rest of the country.

The host participates in all aspects of production including: generating coverage ideas, conducting interviews, writing and reporting, editing and fostering a supportive and inclusive culture. The host also serves as a public representative of the show externally.

**Position Responsibility:**

* Supports the development of the overarching narrative and creative framework of the show

* Develops and executes ideas for episodes, written posts, and digital extras across platforms.

* Conceives, proposes, plans, and researches ideas for the show, live events, and additional digital content.

* Participates and helps guide editorial meetings, suggesting ideas for stories, guests, and new approaches to telling stories.

* Engages with the audience through social media when appropriate and works with the social media team to maximize community impact.

* Ensure that all stories comply with SCPR standards and practices.

* Conducts interviews and works with producers and editors to gather other audio/digital elements for show production.

* Edits digital audio and assembles show as assigned.

* Other duties as assigned

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**

* Strong written, verbal, and social communication skills

* 5 years experience in journalism or related field

* Experience interviewing

* Experience working on a creative team

* Ability to lead a team and foster individual professional growth

* Ability to meet all deadlines

* Become and remain a member in good standing of SAG-AFTRA by the thirtieth (30th) day of employment

**Preferred Skills and Abilities:**

* Hands-on audio editing skills (currently in use or in your past)

* Fluency in Spanish or other non-English languages commonly spoken in Southern California.
