GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Performs work in a wide variety of tasks that directly relates to the safety and well-being of the guests. Work is performed under general supervision of assigned supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 16 years of age and minimal experience as a Lifeguard.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Arizona Driver's License of appropriate class based on assignment.
Lifeguard Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency at hire.
First Aid Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency at hire.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency at hire.
Automated External Defibrillator Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
Swim Instructor Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency preferred.
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required and are subject to change as needs and job requirements change. Position assignments may vary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Provides assistance to guests in emergency and non-emergency situations. Instructs various age groups in swim lessons. Administers First Aid. Performs CPR. Makes certain facility rules and regulations are followed. Assists with set-up and break down of events. Cautions guests about unsafe practices and provides education. Conducts daily safety checks. Assists in cleaning and maintenance of the facility. Assists with Aquatic programs including, but not limited to swim lessons and events. Assists with the operation and maintenance of facility equipment. Provides customer service. Accountable for pool equipment inventory. Attends trainings and staff meetings. Completes
reports as needed. Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid Arizona driver license. Maintains regular attendance. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of standard and currently accepted rules of pool safety and regulations; thorough knowledge of techniques for life saving and water safety. Skill in performing rescue activities such as slide rescue, deep water rescue, extrication, and back boarding. Skill and knowledge of swimming strokes including crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and treading water. Skill in effective methods of communication and interpersonal relations with children, other employees, and the general public. Ability to follow and promote safe work practices. Ability to problem solve quickly and work independently; ability to possess and demonstrate dynamic characteristics of energy, assertiveness, drive, enthusiasm and fun; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, community groups, other departments, other government agencies, program participants, supervisors, and the general public.
The City reserves the right to consider only the most highly qualified applicants. The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Appointment subject to successful background investigation and City paid post-employment medical examination after offer of employment has been made.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy. All positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment.
