Work is performed under the direction of the Fire Chief of Administration. SPECIAL NOTE : Requires non-standard or rotating shift work;

subject to days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents may work outdoors and be exposed to extreme temperatures. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as be an effective team member.

They will be highly ethical, display initiative, possess good communication and organizational skills and have a clean driving record.

A working knowledge of fire department terminology and operating procedures would be beneficial. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.

E.D.) and some experience and / or training in an area of custodial, maintenance and or construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS : Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, twisting, sitting, reaching, lifting, carrying, handling, pushing, climbing, balancing, standing, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing, and performing repetitive motions.

Incumbents may be subject to extreme temperatures. Heavy Work : Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Hearing ability : sufficient to communicate effectively with others in person, by telephone, and over radio equipment. Speaking ability : sufficient to communicate effectively with others in person, by telephone, and over radio equipment.

Visual ability : sufficient to operate vehicles both day and night; observe unsafe road conditions; read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
