We are looking for a qualified VPK Assistant Teacher to help prepare small children for kindergarten by easing them into organized education. You will teach them important elements that they will encounter soon after they enter school life. A VPK Assistant Teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can more easily acclimate in the next level of education.

It is desirable that assistant teachers will have at least an Associate degree in Education, preferably in Early Childhood Education or Primary Education, a CDA or CDA equivalency and one year of teaching experience and must meet the requirements of licensing agencies. CPR and First Aid certifications must be up to date. Profession of faith in Jesus Christ and an active membership in a local church.

Responsibilities

• · Assist teacher in planning, preparing, and executing VPK curriculum using VPK benchmarks and standards.
• · Help organize material for effective, stimulating lesson planning and presentation.
• · Use developmentally appropriate teaching practices when interacting with students.
• · Use variety of instructional materials effectively and with good judgment.
• · Assist teacher in using supportive data to aid in evaluating children’s progress.
• · Encourage practice of Christian principles through your behavioral example, Bible stories, devotions, and prayer.
• · Evoke and reward creative thinking and enthusiasm in students.
• · Show respect for students.
• · Provide proper classroom atmosphere, standards for acceptable behavior and maintain good classroom control with consistency and a variety of positive approaches.
• · Develop students’ interest and eagerness to learn.
• · Use and maintain equipment and materials in the classroom properly.
• · Maintain a safe, clean, and visually appealing learning environment for students.
• · Supervise students’ activities within the classroom, playground, bathrooms, music class, chapel, and during transfer periods.

Skills

• Proven experience as an assistant
• Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
• Excellent communication and instructional skills
• Ability to act as mediator between children
• Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
• Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
• Certification in child CPR
• Degree in education or relevant field preferred.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 21.00 – 25.00 per week
