Lake Street Council is Hiring a Community Safety Program Manager Near Minneapolis, MN

Lake Street Council seeks a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team in the new full-time Community Safety Program Manager role. This position is pivotal in advancing our mission by developing and implementing strategies to enhance safety and security along Lake Street for businesses, visitors, and residents alike. The position is funded by the City of Minneapolis.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop a community safety program with goals, strategies, procedures, and performance measures; track progress and recommend changes.
  • Support business owners, nonprofits, and community members with safety concerns and connect them to resources.
  • Build relationships and support coordination efforts with the community and partner agencies, including the City of Minneapolis Office of Community Safety, Hennepin County, social service nonprofits, street outreach teams, private security firms serving local businesses, and community stakeholders.
  • Staff a community committee to help guide the work.
  • Support placemaking and activation efforts to enhance livability.
  • Coordinate prevention and intervention efforts, including facilitating stakeholder meetings and planning events.
  • Liaison with government agencies and local businesses to address litter, lighting, and infrastructure repair issues.
  • Provide policy recommendations for city and county budgets.
  • Support fundraising efforts to sustain and grow this work.
Desired Skills/Experience:An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Experience in program development and implementation.
  • Cultural competency and the ability to engage and work constructively with underrepresented communities.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, business owners, managers, property owners, and community members.
  • Ability to work independently, identify and communicate creative solutions to challenges, maintain a strong focus on work plan priorities, and persist in follow-through.
  • Ability to schedule and track multiple projects from start to finish, from large to small, and work in the field to track progress.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community development topics.
  • Knowledge of risk and protective factors.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and community mobilization.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice systems or community safety initiatives.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to uphold the values of anti-displacement, economic justice, and racial justice
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Microsoft Office, and project management systems.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish or Somali) preferred, but not required.
Compensation and benefits: Salary range of $55,000-$65,000 dependent on experience. The organization pays the majority of employee health and dental insurance premiums and provides a retirement match into a SIMPLE plan. Generous PTO and short-term leave policies. Flexible, hybrid work environment requiring regular in-person work at the Lake Street Council office and in the community. This position occasionally requires attendance at community meetings and events on nights and weekends.
