Lakeland HR Solutions is Hiring a 2026 Alberta Winter Games: Games Manager Near Paul, MN

The Lakeland Region 2026 Alberta Winter Games Committee is seeking a dynamic and experienced Games Manager to lead the coordination and execution of the 2026 Alberta Winter Games located within the MD of Bonnyville, Town of Bonnyville, Village of Glendon and the City of Cold Lake. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in a prestigious event that will bring together over 2,500 athletes, coaches, managers, and technical officials. The Games Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring all aspects of the event run smoothly and successfully. This role presents a unique opportunity to support the advancement of sports and to foster healthier, active, and well-connected communities.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Recommend policies and procedures to the Lakeland Region Alberta Winter Games 2026 Board of Directors.
  • Serve on the Board as a non-voting member.
  • Act as a resource person to the Board and their committees.
  • Liaise with provincial and municipal representatives, and other community groups as required.
  • Manage stakeholder relations and fund development.
  • Develop a Games staffing plan for approval by the Board and hire Games staff.
  • Develop and maintain a physical office for Games administration.
  • Manage the Games office and staff, ensuring appropriate resources and assistance are provided to the Games volunteers as required.
  • Develop and maintain a Games timeline and budget in cooperation with the Board.
  • Monitor all aspects of Games planning to ensure timelines, budgets, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Provide regular reports regarding the progress of the Games planning and identify issues or areas of concern.
  • Coordinate and integrate all Games activities in cooperation with the Games Directors to prevent gaps or conflicts in planning and to ensure relevant information is exchanged.
  • Prepare a final Games report and compile final reports from all Directors, Chairs, and staff.
  • Perform other duties that are in the best interest of the Games.
Specific Requirements
  • Post secondary education or equivalent experience in business, public relations, project management, tourism management, promotion, physical education, kinesiology, and marketing will be considered an asset.
  • Candidates must be committed to residing within close proximity to the hosting communities and able to raise funds, sponsorships, and grants from leaders in the community and afar related to sports, industry, business, culture, and all levels of government.
  • Excellent business computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in organizing major events and activities, preferably related to large sporting events.
  • Demonstrated leadership values, ethics, experience, and qualities.
  • Previous experience working with Boards, non-profit associations, and volunteers.
  • Experience working with stakeholders, sponsors, and funders.
  • A demonstrated passion for recreation and sport.
PPosition DetailsThis term position starts September 2024 and ends approximately April 30, 2026. Compensation will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be based on their ability to fulfill the requirements and obligations of this position.
