    Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a Camp Director for Summer at Lakeside 2024. The Investigative Learning Camp Jr. offers students entering grades 3-4 the opportunity to take classes covering STEAM-based topics. Creative play is the focus of all of the classes. The ILC Jr. Camp Director works 8 a.m.-4 p.m. from June 28 – August 2
    Responsibilities
    This position reports to the Director of Summer at Lakeside and to the ILC Director who is on
    site. The ILC Jr. Camp Director oversees this four-week program.
    • Assist the ILC Director and Summer at Lakeside Director in planning and running the ILC and ILC Jr. faculty orientation and counselor orientation.
    • Plan and supervise all ILC Jr. activities, including Morning Gathering, recess, community time, and lunch.
    • Assist the ILC Camp Director in supervising and mentoring the group of high-school aged counselors.
    • Orient and instruct the counselors in the positive management of younger children.
    • Coordinate with the ILC Director to manage the camp check-in and check-out process, as well as track class attendance and manage follow-up with parents/guardians.
    • Observe and provide constructive feedback for ILC Jr. camp teachers.
    • Serve as the first-line substitute teacher in ILC Jr. classes as needed.
    • Work with counselors to collect photos of camp activities.
    • Work closely with the Director of Summer at Lakeside and ILC Director to create a positive, engaging camp environment for a diverse group of campers.
    • Work with the ILC Director to supervise camp set-up and pack-up processes.
    • Other duties as assigned by the ILC Director and Director of Summer at Lakeside.
    Requirements and Qualifications
    Successful candidates must have...
    • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
    • Prior experience working with a diverse student population and demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset. Candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases; candidates actively work to create an inclusive workplace.
    • A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    • Several years of experience working with elementary or middle-school aged students.
    • Leadership experience with a group of adults.
    • Curriculum development experience and classroom experience that helps to inform the teacher evaluation/feedback process.
    • Demonstrated enthusiasm for experiential learning.
    • Strong organizational skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills.
    • A great sense of humor.
    • The ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
    • Additionally, candidates must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
    Compensation and Benefits
    The stipend for this position is $6,500. Lunch is included. Summer at Lakeside also offers free camp for children (Gr.3-8) of all summer employees for the weeks when they are working for the summer program. Employees must register their children via the Summer at Lakeside webpage.
