Job Description SummaryAs a starch/slurry attendant you will be responsible for disposing of all plant process and packaging waste; the storage and unloading of oil; and the optimizing of starch production.
Job DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Load and unload starch, slurry, and oil trucks.
- Drive Hyster to dump totes and perform cleanup of loadout pad and area.
- Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
- Maintain accurate Baume' readings and check starch levels every hour.
- Check all motors to see that they are running. Includes ascending/descending stairs to clarifier catwalk and to filter cake and hopper bins catwalk to check levels.
- Clean starch tanks, floors, and catwalks by peeler incline belts.
- Clean waste treatment area including truck bin load-out floors, oil tank floors, vacuum drum floors and area.
- Collect QA waste samples.
- Obtain depth reading of solids in clarifier.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate information well to others.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but un-involved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problem situations.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Certified to drive Hyster.
- Tools and equipment used: shovel, hose, Hyster, tractor, and dump truck on occasion.
- Must be able to work while standing for long periods of time.
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairways, ladders, catwalks, and work at heights up to 30 feet.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds with assistance in a safe manner.
- Must have good visual acuity.
- Must be able to work independently without a lot of supervision.
- Must be able to discern the time to communicate problems to the lead or supervisor.
- Must be able to endure extreme hot and cold conditions, high noise and vibration levels, slick floors, dust, and tolerate potato waste odor.
