DutiesA Medical Assistant is a healthcare professional and an essential member of the patient-centered healthcare team. This individual is responsible for pre-visit planning standard rooming responsibilities assisting with procedures discharge instructions and other duties as assigned. The medical assistant is instrumental in helping the patient feel at ease while collaborating with the provider throughout the patients visit. The medical assistant may be required to cross train and float as needed to maintain optimal clinic operations. Other duties as assigned. JOB STANDARD: -All patients are roomed in a timely manner to assure optimal patient flow and to meet customer service standards. Notify patients and appropriate staff of schedule delays. -Room patients using the current standard rooming procedures including but not limited to: obtaining accurate vital signs appropriate to reason for visit verifies current medications including over the counter medication usage and pends refills as needed verifies patient allergies and prepares the patient for the provider examination as indicated by reason for visit. -Perform pre-visit planning and registry management per clinic guidelines. Participates in department huddles as applicable. -Follow department specific protocols for procedures such as EKG ear lavages medication administration O2 administration respiratory treatments dressing changes bladder scanner prep and assistance with surgical procedures NSTs (non-stress tests) application of DME phlebotomy and others as directed. Obtain appropriate consents if applicable. -Specialty clinic specific protocols procedures requirements as determined by clinic leadership. -Assist with appointment scheduling per clinic guidelines. -Assist with referral facilitation and tracking per clinic guidelines. -Provide and review with the patient appropriate educational materials instructions and AVS as directed and per clinic guidelines. Utilize the recall functionality as applicable per clinic guidelines. -Prioritize and complete all responsibilities by the end of the work day. Communicate with care team any duties that require follow-up. -Using EMR document all patient care accurately professionally and timely including level of service where applicable per policy and/or clinic guidelines. Monitor In-basket and take action in a timely manner. -Escalate situations of compliance risk or patient safety concerns to proper member(s) of the care team and/or leadership in a timely manner. -Process refills accurately following refill policy per clinic guidelines. -Follow all safety and infection control standards to provide safe patient care and a safe work environment. Support inventory control and maintenance of equipment. -Other duties assigned by clinic leadership such as monitoring refrigerator temperatures supply ordering vaccine ordering emergency equipment checks patient check in etc. -Assist in the training of co-workers and mentoring students as assigned.
SkillsOne to two years of clinical experience is preferred. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Certification through the AAMA and/or an equal certification board or certification is preferred.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
In addition individuals must meet one (1) of the following combinations of education and experience:
  • A graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program (Associate Diploma or Certificate).
  • A graduate of a non CAAHEP or ABHES Medical Assistant program (Associate diploma or Certificate) or Military Medic/Corpsman training. In addition to education three (3) years of formal on the job Medical Assistant experience required.
  • Currently posses and are in good standing with at least one of the following credentials:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • Assessment –Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE)
