Description
A non-profit is Seeking an Alcohol and Drug Program Counselor (AOD) who is responsible for providing alcohol and drug counseling and case management services and referrals to clients. Must have current Alcohol and Other Drug Certificate (AOD) and current CPR certification.
Responsibilities
· Provide chemical dependency intervention and counseling to individuals, including significant others and family as requested by the patient.
· Conduct patient counseling and assessments, using various accepted skills, tools and intervention methods, in conjunction with other providers where necessary, to develop plans for provision of services. Work with patient to develop agreements and maintain plans regarding goals and objectives for alcohol and drug dependency treatment.
· Conducts all work within generally accepted standards and ethical guidelines of the social work or counseling professions. Seeks out guidance from BH Director/BH Manager/Clinical Supervisor/ Alcohol and Other Drug Program Coordinator where questions or concerns may arise.
· Attend weekly clinical supervision
· Communicate with other providers within the organization to encourage coordination in patient care, including medical other social services needs. Communicate externally with agencies and other entities, providing referrals and additional support for services as needed.
· Provide benefits counseling and perform minimal medical assessment in order to determine other client needs.
· Provide referrals for services handled by other agencies as needed by each patient, these services include, but are not limited to, referrals for, food, housing and employment.
· Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.
· Communicate in a respectful tone and manner
· Listen actively and communicate effectively with others
· Write clearly and accurately in a variety of contexts and formats
Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work/ related field or 4 years AOD experience required.
· Current Alcohol and Other Drug Certification and CPR required.
· Licenses required for this position must be kept current, valid, and in good standing with the presiding entity
· Effective communication skills, including but not limited to: Ability to read and write effectively, within the business context, and to compose correspondence; Ability to speak effectively before patients or employees of the organization
