Lansing School District is Hiring a Community Engagement Specialist Near Lansing, MI

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • Participate in scheduled professional development
  • Ability to support and guide alternative education programs in a diverse community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and time-management skills
  • Experience working with community organizations and groups to meet the needs of children and families
  • Flexibility and patience are required
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision
  • Must be able to work toward program and district goals
  • Demonstration of interpersonal, time, conflict, and stress management skills
  • Demonstration of ability to keep records and meet deadlines
  • Demonstration of positive human interactions
Sample Job Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to manage the needs of families and their school aged children
  • Proactively track the progress of goals set forth by the Lansing Learning Hub
  • Help communicate with families and community entities to provide wrap around services for students
  • Alert administrators of any concerns
  • Conduct scheduled conferences with families and community organizations
  • Document all conferences and necessary information in the appropriate computer database
  • Fully engage the growth model developed for goal setting, performance, and evaluations
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in school activities, open houses, orientations, information sessions, etc
  • Demonstrate ability to create an environment of respect and rapport
  • Establish a culture for learning and respect
  • Using questioning and discussion techniques
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
  • Effectively communicate with families
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission and vision
