Lansing School District is Hiring a Special Education Compliance Manager Near Lansing, MI

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
  • Previous Special Education teaching or compliance experience
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive issues and materials in an appropriate manner; and
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, Local, public, and special education compliance
  • Capability to effectively communicate verbally during presentation to school staff, administrators, Board members, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Special Education Leadership or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching Special Education
  • Experience working with online Michigan Department of Education tools;
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of State/Federal programs such as MARSE and/or IDEA
  • Communication and Updates:
  • Communicate with State and County officials, office staff, and school-based Special Education Supervisors as needed.
  • Send weekly compliance updates to school-based Special Education Supervisors to flag compliance hot spots (e.g., evaluation timelines, manifestations).
  • Compliance and Monitoring:
  • Prepare and monitor compliance indicators and discipline for special education.
  • Conduct regular IEP audits to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, as well as District policies and procedures.
  • Support and Assistance:
  • Assist building administrators and staff, providing support with District Improvement, School Improvement processes, and compensatory education plans.
  • Teacher Onboarding and Training:
  • Conduct new teacher onboarding for Synergy SE to support REED and IEP writing.
  • Inform school-based Special Education Supervisors and administrators of the timelines for IEP development, annual case reviews, evaluations, re-evaluations, manifestations, and progress on goals.
  • Child Count and Data Monitoring:
  • Facilitate the District’s Special Education child count.
  • Monitor and report school suspension, expulsion, seclusion, restraint, and academic data for students with special needs to school-based Special Education Supervisors.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
  • Maintain and complete reports as requested by the District Department of Special Populations.
  • Professional Development:
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Director to determine compliance-related professional development and training needs.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned to best support the Lansing School District

$59,311 - $95,947 a year
Salary will be determined based on years of work in equivalent or related roles.
