  • Hours of Work: 12:00am to 8:00am coverage, Sunday Thursday

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Classified 7 level position. Starting wage range: $22.49 - $25.41/hourly, depending upon experience.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Safety Officer position ensures the safety and security of the campus community. This position is a full-time, benefitted position, which requires the ability to work various shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays. 8:00am to 4:00pm, 4:00pm to 12:00am, 12:00am to 8:00am. This posting is primarily for 12:00am to 8:00am coverage, Sunday Thursday.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Essential Functions:

Essential Functions: this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Ensure a safe and secure campus environment by conducting regular safety inspections of campus facilities and ensure all buildings are secured by checking doors, windows, and alarm systems.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and healthy campus environment by enforcing campus policies and regulations, including those related to parking, smoking and drug and alcohol use to promote a culture of compliance and respect among students, staff and visitors.
  • Foster a unified approach to campus safety by maintaining clear and effective communication with campus safety team members, supervisors, and coordinating closely with law enforcement or other emergency responders to facilitate swift responses to incidents and promote collaborative problem-solving.
  • Support accountability and continuous improvement efforts within the organization by documenting activities by providing accurate record-keeping and routine reports and investigating safety incidents.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • The functions of this position involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme weather, temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. Appropriate safety precautions and equipment must be utilized as warranted
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards, emergency response, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions and department standard operating procedures
  • Ability to effectively listen and perceive the nature of sounds and spoken words at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. For lifts exceeding 50 pounds, a team lift technique is required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Two years of experience in a customer service or security role with working in a diverse, multicultural community
  • Associate degree from an accredited institution OR two years of experience in law enforcement, or customer service, or security role working with a diverse, multicultural community
  • Valid drivers license and ability to be insured by the Colleges insurance provider
  • Basic First aid/CPR/AED/Blood Borne Pathogens certifications or ability to obtain certifications within the first two months of employment

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Five years of experience in a law enforcement, or customer service, or security role working with a diverse, multicultural community
