LAREDO MEDICAL CENTER is Hiring a Dialysis Inpatient RN - FT Near LAREDO, TX

Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) positions available. The nurse role will provide hemodialysis therapies to patients with chronic renal disease while inpatients at Laredo Medical Center (LMC). Sign-on bonus and relocation available! The facility is located in sunny Laredo, Texas, just 150 miles south of San Antonio, Texas. Inpatient dialysis is a fundamental service line for many LMC patients. We are now seeking nurses to serve in our dialysis unit.

Our nurses will evaluate assigned patients and care plans to implement and document the provided nursing care through the administration of medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Nurse will promote patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Reports to the nursing director of the unit. 

Essential Functions:

The Dialysis Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in licensed Acute Hospitals.

  • Plans and provides patient care for the adult and geriatric patients in the hospital in accordance with physician’s orders, as well as the policies and procedures assigned by Laredo Medical Center.
  • Complete pre and post treatment physical assessments, documenting as required.
  • Participate as assigned in patient assessment and care planning activities
  • Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies in a professional, considerate and respectful manner
  • Interacts and communicates with hospital partners in a collaborative, respectful manner
  • Gives pre/post treatment report through appropriate reporting process to hospital primary RN/Staff
  • Documents patients’ physical assessment, vital signs, treatment reviews and observation in patient medical records and brings issues to the attention of the physician and primary nurse
  • Documents, evaluates and implements dialysis orders.
  • Analyzes patient assessments, dialysis orders, laboratory results, and discusses issues with the nephrologist
  • Communicates emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents to supervisor, hospital staff, and the patient’s physician
  • Provides initiation and discontinuation of the prescribed renal replacement therapy, including but not limited to formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety measures are in place and compiled with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, and documenting all activity appropriately on the hospital EMR
    • Competent to perform pre and post lab work, lab draws, draw blood cultures and glucose testing.
    • Competent to perform termination of treatment and hemostasis.
    • Competent to perform initiation of dialysis with CVC, scrub the hub, identify CVC, anticoagulant removal, saline flush and heparin administration
  • Maintains the integrity of Dialysis equipment per policy; performs safety checks and testing of monitors and alarms.
  • Competent in adverse event documentation..
  • Competent to perform peritoneal dialysis functions. 
  • Complete and document monthly review of patient medication profiles and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Participate in quality improvement reviews as needed. 

Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Required: A minimum of an associate's degree.

Licences/Certifications: 

  • Required: Licensed as a R.N. by the Texas State Board of Registered Nurse Examiners.
  • Required: ACLS, BLS Certifications

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience with familiarity of the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Preferred: 2 years or more of dialysis experience.
