Our client, a leading technology manufacturer in the greater Michigan area, is seeking a Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property (IP) team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in protecting technological innovations by preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications. This position requires a deep understanding of patent law, strong technical expertise, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and file patent applications in the United States and internationally.
• Conduct thorough patent searches and analyze prior art to assess patentability.
• Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and ensure accurate and comprehensive patent applications.
• Prosecute patent applications, including responding to office actions and communicating with patent examiners.
• Manage and maintain a portfolio of patents, ensuring timely payment of maintenance fees and addressing any legal issues that arise.
• Provide strategic advice on IP matters, including patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Stay current with changes in patent laws and regulations, and ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
• Assist in IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions.
• Educate and train employees on IP best practices and the importance of protecting intellectual property.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, etc.).
• Registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Minimum of 1 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
• Strong understanding of patent laws, regulations, and procedures.
